Constant heartburn?

I have suffered from Acid Reflux for about 5 years . I think it began with an ulcer. I take Pantaprazole 80mg/day which I've taken on and off for the entire 5 years. They've never really done much for me but my doctor says take them. For the last 6 months or so I've been plagued with constant heartburn which radiates up into my throat. It doesn't matter now what I eat or drink the heartburn is there. I'm scared now that it might be Barrett's Esophagus simply because it is so constant and it's moreso in my throat rather than chest. Usually when it occurs it's so bothersome that it makes me nauseous. I think I may have to have an upper endoscopy which I've had before but the last one was a few years ago and it appeared all clear.
I wondered if anyone has had constant heartburn and especially the burning in the throat rather than chest?

I get the feeling of something stuck in my throat too. I've had that for years. Dr. says it's just a sensation , there's nothing actually there. The sensation is called Globus. I am constantly clearing my throat also. These are both symptoms of Reflux as well as the heartburn. I was just concerned because lately the heartburn is always present. Never goes away.
I agree with you on the PPI's. They are pretty useless.
Thanks so much for response!

There's no type of throat cancer in the family but of course I too worry about that. I will have an endoscopy again to have that checked out. This forum is indeed reassuring at times but you still should always see a doctor.
