    Hi Trisha

Yes I get this and it comes and goes. I sympathise with you as when I get it I could scratch my skin off. When I first got it my GP did blood tests to make sure I wasn't allergic to anything plus they did some for I think it was my kidneys and liver as scratching like that can also be to do with those too. My bloods all came back clear and my GP told me to try Aloe Vera gel and it did help me so give it a try as you never know hopefully it can help you too x

That's weird you saying that Alison, my bloods came back with abnormal liver count. So I think I'll go to doctor just to be careful xxxx

      Thanks again

Sometimes I get an itch that just won't stop.  I rub it with a bit of vasaline and for some reason it stops. Hope it works for you as well.

Hi Trisha and others;   yes, itching is something that we all have complained about over the time..:   for me, I take some anti-histamine (a non-drowsy type).....and this works well.....mine is a 24 hour over the counter variety.

When talking about the Liver being checked....this is because when with anyone who is on Long-term medications/or conditions that affect the liver, the first sign of a Problem, is itching/discolouration of skin....due to the bi-products of Digestion  being secreted via the skin, as the liver is/cannot do this for us via the Normal methods of secretion.

Hoping this helps you all, and good luck, and no more need for scratching....we have enough to worry about, without this too, Hey?....Bron

Great advice bronmyn, I took cetirizen, which is for my hay fever and so far so good, and yes I did know all that about the liver, also when they temoved my gallbladder, they damaged a bile duct, so that tend to get blocked with bile. Of course after I was told this by another consultant, my son being there, he soon noticed that we were in the dark about this, and didn't write it in my notes! I wonder why???

evening Trisha;   I have to admit that not every consultant/surgeon writes up his notes completely.  I had this experience once, following a minor op, and thought I had heard the surgeon tell me "what he had found and what he needed for follow up"....(but as we all know, we are not completely with it in the post - recovery stage), so when the RN told me what the nursing staff thought was the required follow up, I asked to read my chart for the Surgeon's Notes....but he had not written what he had told me.....hence to cut a long story short, went ahead and had further tests, which the Surgeon did not need.   A lot of wasted time and money, and pain for me...........so is that your issue too?     I feel it Really Pays for us to  Ask All Questions, and if needed Have the Answers Written Down for Us for our Own Records of what is happening to us....(whether it be test results or answers to questions etc)........Bron

Yes, regarding my gallbladder operation, I have had pain ever since, and my son and I were sitting with a consultant after another Mir, who then said that my liver duct had been damaged 'probably during the operation', when asked how we solve this he clammed up and said I'd need to speak to the original consultant, he brushed over it when I confronted him about it. They come away with all this jargon of an explanation, then I was ushered out to get more bloods taken. So to say the least I'm totally confused, my own go has no notes from the consultant confirming this, so it is my son and I against someone who has been dancing around this issue. They really don't care.

Yep same here.  Went to YMCA last week with a friend to swim, and got sunburned, which is rare for me since I seem to tan instead, usually.  Itching like a race horse now, but I have the itching on other days as well.  With fibro, Aleve and other types of pain killers do nothing for me when I get a fibro flare - but with the itching, I use lidocaine ointment, which helps a bit.  Have you tried that, or maybe an aloe cream???
