CONSTANT MUCUS ON THROAT AREA

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have had surgery for GERD and I have been having constant drainage with mucus that seems to get stuck on my vocal cords, therefore, I am constantly clearing my throat. It is not post nasal drip. It seems to be coming from just the left side of my throat or esphosigus. The GERD caused my esphosigus to be inflamed. I do have appointments with Lung specialist and my GI specialist, but in the mean time my primary Doctor gave me and RX to hopefully heal the inflammation, if that is what it is. My question for anyone is: have you ever or are you experiencing this type of problem? I have seen so many Doctors, each one says they don't see anything, but I feel like there is something like a cut only on the left side of my throat or esphogas. It is very annoying. Any thoughts from others who may be experiencing this with problem., Thank you

I am interested in any replies you receive, as I was discussing this very problem with a friend recently, and we both experience the same symptoms, long term, not sufficiently bad to be a problem. It would be nice to know the cause and to clear it up, as long term coughing to clear it could have perhaps been a cause of my hernia rather than the after effect.

      Hi Ann

I went to my primary physician. I explained to him my symptoms. I told him about possible inflammation on my throat or esphogas. He prescribed an RX to take and he thought this would take care of problem. I had hiatal hernia surgery alittle over 2 months ago. They also repaired my valve (due to the GERD). I did have inflammation on my esphogas, caused by the GERD. So I am not sure if the inflammation was causing problems with the mucus or if the tube that was inserted into my esphogas during surgery, accidentally cut my esphogas, thus causing more inflammation. All I know is it feels like something in my throat,(only on the left side of throat), feels like a cut, irritation, or inflammation. I also have Doctor appointment s with a Lung Specialist and my GI specialist at the end of this month. So between these three things in order, I am hoping to get some information and results. Thanks for responding

What surgery did you have for your GERD? Is it effective? If you are still getting oesophagitis and requiring acid suppressants, it may not be.

Excess mucous production in the throat is often a symptom of extra-oesophageal reflux (also known as LPR) when reflux travels full column and breaches the cricoharyngeus. This irritates the throat producing extra mucous.

LPR can also cause post nasal drip, sinusitis etc. See the chapter on extra-oesophageal reflux in the www DownWithAcd org uk book / website.

    Hi clarice34348

Yes; I get this excess mucous all the time but now the pollen season is here it is particularly bad and sometimes hard to breathe as well. My GP has prescribed Ventolin to open up my lungs which helps with the breathing but also prescribed Mucodyne Syrup which I take twice daily.

A bottle only lasts 15 days but I have started to feel the effect of the medicine (don't have the tablets as they don't work) so I have asked my GP for another two bottles - this 30 days worth.

    Hope this helps.
