Allison I don't really know what you mean a year off ? I presume you have come off and you have relapse? .if do why did you come off in the first place. ? If not everyone here is going through hell on or off the meds until they are in there system as you well know.unfortunately we have to go through the withdrawal's coming off completely. It's what you learn about your limits and issues which got us here when you are on the meds .for me I am on half the dosage and OK with it. I now don't push to hard and take on board sh*t.

    Hi Allison,

Am I reading this correctly, that you came off of sert a year ago and are still having problems?  How long had you been on it and how quickly did you come off?  What dosage?

Doctors won't admit this, but yes, protracted withdrawal from psych meds can last for years, not just 6 weeks or so as they would have you believe.  There is a whole forum full of people who are proof of this, called Surviving Antidepressants.  You  might want to visit there for support and information on the subject.  It is a private non-profit, no cost to join.

The anxiety and depression are likely withdrawal, in addition to the physical symptoms.  We call them "neuro-emotions" as they take on a proportion beyond what people feel their previous depression/anxiety were before or during the drugs.  In fact, there are people who took these meds for pain or PMS, only to suffer depression and anxiety in withdrawal!

I'm sorry you are still suffering.  Please visit the forum. They can advise you on what to do for relief.  It is dangerous at this point to try new meds as they may actually cause you to get worse.  Your nervous system is very sensitized at this point and adding more drugs to it can be paradoxical.  I've read plenty of stories from people where that was the case.

It might help to think of your symptoms as signs that your nervous system is healing . Hard to accept when you are feeling rotten!

benzos actually make anxiety worse, rebound anxiety!  I was reading about this last night!  You are very sensitized due to your withdrawal from Sert and any new meds can cause a paradoxical reaction, make things worse, so be very careful!

Sorry you not good on these tablets.....but they ruined my life for the best part of three months....I would really weigh this medication up...it's not for everyone and one of the cheapest brands of antidepressants....with only a 60% success rate. In my eyes its the devil....I'm taking amitriptyline now to hekp me sleep and life's so much better. Yes if needed cbt to manage the anxiety but now I have control with a real balance of emotions...not the zombie I once was .
