Constant Pain- Right Abdominal Area

Hello, could someone please help me- for close to 4 months now I've had a dull and gnalling pain in my right abdominal area. In the mornings it's not that bad, can barely feel it, but by the evening time it comes back and in full force. When I sit in a car it's the worst. When I stand it's a little better and when I workout I can barely feel it's like I'm symptom free practically. I have regular bowel movements- no diarrhea or constipation (when I first got the pain I had two stools that were almost white, like a really light tan color that I had never seen before although now they always sink and aren't as full looking and seem greasier than before) I've tried home remedies like apple cider vinegar and lemon concoctions to upping my probiotic intake and alas the pain is still there. I am a 38 year old male, work out almost everyday, drink lost of water and a veggie juice daily and only drink alcohol on the weekends, sometimes heavily, but usually moderately.

I have seen a family doctor and a GI specialist. I've had an ultrasound, x-ray and a MRI done. They came back saying I had a tiny polyp in my gallbladder and said it was nothing and 2 probable hemangiomas on my liver, which are also benign. The MRI said that my liver and spleen are slightly larger than they should be, but other than that everything is in good standing. Blood tests came back normal except for a slightly elevated bilirubin level. No elevated white blood cell count to help rule out a bacterial or viral infection (although my head has been loud like when you have a sinus infection- not tinnitus and I don't suffer from allergies) and liver enzymes came back at a normal level as well. No inflammation of the bilary ducts, no gall or kidney stones seen either.

All the results want me to believe I did pull a muscle in the area, however it seems too coincidental that after fatty/saturated foods the pain is usually more intense then when I only drink and eat healthy foods- so maybe it's not a muscle problem. Once, I tried to drink dandelion tea to increase bile production and that really hurt the right abdomen area the worst and made me have a racing heart. I am currently taking a herbal detox cleansing I found on the internet that treats gall and kidney stones just in case the MRI/ultrasound missed them. It's the 3rd day and no pain relief.

Could this pain be from a bacterial infection of my colon i.e. the ascending colon area (want to ask doctor for a trail of antibiotics that would mainly attack the right abdominal area). Can an infection stay in one area and feed off of the food you're ingesting daily or is this a muscle strain that in the right abdominal area that has pressure on it from the high fiber foods I drink and eat daily because the pain is heightened every evening and night time after most of my meals??? I do suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, could this be the culprit? Any help with my situation is greatly appreciated.

I trust your appendix was ruled out?  I recently had my appendix removed - I went on for several days prior to the emergency surgery not realising how sick I was.  When I asked how that was possible and why the appendix did not burst, when they went in they found the appendix was nestled in the bowel and therefore insulated/protected making my symptoms less obvious.

I suppose that would have shown up on scans though?

I hope you find a solution soon.

Thanks PenceJ, I asked my doctor after the ultrasound how all the organs in the area looked and like I said in the post they all looked fine except that the spleen and liver were slightly enlarged. I just had another blood work-up and missed a call from my (got a voicemail) GI specialist saying that my white blood cells are a little elevated after all- INFECTION! He is to call me back soon. Going to ask for a round of antibiotics for the digestive system immedietly. My advice to anyone reading this is that if you are experiencing what I am going through, eat the foods that trigger an attack the day before you test so that the white blood cells react at a higher level, because my first blood test did not show an elevated leve of white blood cells. Take that advice if you are healthy enough btw...

When I got my blood work done it was late January it was a fasting blood work checked CBC panel. My WBC was in between not elevated or below. I am experiencing pain when I sit I would say it's more discomfort. At times generates to my back where my kidneys are but all my blood work was fine. So I dk what to think anymore other then Gastritis. I'm taking pepsid over the counter and have cut off somewhat of spicy food which is my favorite and alchol have not drank for close to a week . So would it be Hpylori what u have if it's an infection sounds like it and that's what I'm afraid of havingsad

Hanna, Wow you and I have what seems to be an identical situation. The pain for me radiates from around the center of my right abdomen all the way to the side where my ribcage meets my hipbone all the way back to my navel is. It is never at all the points, it roves around throughout the day and night, sometimes light and other times it hurts more. Like you said, it's never really painful, just super uncomfortable and irritating. I too tried all types of antacids. I also did a month of omeprazole (prilosec) and that made me feel better, but it didn't relieve the pain in my side. Hopefully you just have gastritis, because that's easy to fix.

Update, just spoke to my GI Dr and he told me that the high level of variant lymphocytes (white blood cells) indicated on my blood work done 3 days ago was probably from the contrast they put in my blood from the MRI from 5 days ago. So it isn't looking like it's a viral infection causing the right abdominal pain after all.

I just want my life back and I can't believe that I was excited earlier today thinking that I had a viral infection simply because I would finally know what was ailing me.

I will keep this link current and will post what I can find out. Let me know if you figure out what is wrong with you too please... Good Luck

I will update you please update me with what's wrong with u.. I will be making a doctors appointment or visiting the ER soon since the doctors I go to I feel like they don't want to help and ignore me.. And yes sounds like the same exact symptoms my symptoms are not all the time but I don't go a day without it. Noticed it was more prisistant about 2weeks ago.. I been having this pain go off and on not as prisistant since last year in June... But I had blood work and showed that everything was normal tho.. And the discomfort /pain is on my right upper abdominal it does now radiate to my back where my kidneys r at and this is one of the newer symptoms that are happening

Actually since last year in July noticed this discomfort ... There is nothing wrong with my liver or kidneys that I'm aware about just hoping it's nothing serious like Hpylori or another infection

Hello, I have symptoms similar to yours. Just wondering if you have gotten a diagnosis? I've had multiple tests & scans; all with normal results. Please let me know how you are being treated.

    thank you very much.
