Constant Peri symptoms - heavy tired blurry eyes, dizzy, neck pain

I am a newby here and just wanted to find out if other women are suffering from any symptoms that are constant? This is probably my health anxiety talking, but I seem to have a few head issues which are all the time these days and I just can't believe that they can be attributed to hormones. I have the symptoms that come and go, like fatigue, insomnia, palpitations, tingling in extremities, jelly legs, burning tongue, dry eyes, headaches, light sensitivity, overheating, bloating, spotting, lighter periods, tummy issues and crushing anxiety. But I also have symptoms that are EVERY DAY! Like spacey vision, dizziness/off balance (this has recently become constant), achy/pressure and tired eyes and neck pain. I have had SO many tests like brain MRI's & MRA, spinal MRI sinus CT, chest xray, dental xrays, ophthalmologist testing, vaginal ultrasounds and nothing has been found. Am I the only one having these constant symptoms and can they really be attributed to all of this hormonal craziness?

    Hi there Jen,

I also have the off-balance dizzy feeling almost every other day or so. My blood work came back that I am hypoglycemic so this may be why but I think it is peri. I also have more frequent headaches and sometimes vision seems off a bit like in morning and at night. Anxiety and palpitations come and go but I have not had the hot flashes yet. I am 44. I have had other issues like my vagina becomes irritated often. I have read this is due to lower estrogen. The doctors probably think I am crazy and don't really look at peri as being a cause- they just order all the test and like you, for the most part, mine have all come back normal. My sister is going through some similar symptoms. Hopefully they are all just peri and will go away with time. I think a strict healthy diet low in caffeine, grains, dairy and sugar is the best medicine.

      Hi Cheryl,

I am 43 and it seems we have very similar symptoms. Like you, I have not experienced hot flushes but I have noticed that when I do anything even mildly strenuous I get really hot and sweaty, much more than I used to. My dr thinks I'm crazy too and is sick of the sight of me! He has always said that it wouldn't be hormonal so sent me to every specialist under the sun and we came back with nothing. I saw him last week and he actually said "hormones affect every part of the body" so I am assuming that he is finally coming around to the fact that it is likely hormones causing all of this mess as we have ruled out pretty much EVERYTHING else. I am also on low dairy, grains and no caffeine or chocolate (argh it kills me!)

Thanks Jen for the reassurance. Yes, this diet is killing me too but it definitely helps. I still cheat with grains and caffeine (just can't cut them out completely) but pretty good with gluten and dairy. Ya, these doctors don't know enough about us women- even the female ones! Keep in touch...

Hi Jen - sending you many hugs as I type this. I could have written much of what you wrote. I am 52 years' old. Blood work shows post-menopausal but I still spot. I have had the heart palps, severe anxiety, but by far the worst is what has been going on in my head for the past five months straight. Severe dizziness (constant 24/7 sometimes accompanied by nausea) and my head is very, very heavy. Worse when I lie down. Can't lay on my back or right side as it feels like I have bricks in my head or an elephant is sitting on my head. Neck is also very tight and cracks all the time. My head "crackles" like there is a bowl of Rice Krispies in there (sounds nuts I know). My right eye waters and has been bloodshot for months. I have seen two neurologists (brain MRI normal), a cardiologist (normal), two OB/GYNs, my primary, an ENT, a psychologist, a psychiatrist, tried Prozac but made me too sick. Some doctors think the dizziness is anxiety, one doctor thinks it's my neck/spinal stenosis (but my neck nor my anxiety never bothered me physically until this all hit me with the hormones five months' ago). It is impossible to believe that in 2018 there is no one that can truly diagnose what is happening to us and provide us with the right treatment. This forum is the only thing that has helped me and provided some much needed comfort. Sending you well wishes and hopes that you find relief soon.

hi karen - just curious about your bloodshot/watery eye....do you wake up with sleep crusted around it? if so, you may have blepharitis - i struggled for 40 days with horrible bloodshot eyes, gritty feeling in them & they would tear to the point of a waterfall...thought i had ocular rosacea & was perscribed an antibiotic that i took for 40 days until i went to opthamaligist - you should check it out -

Hi Debra - thank you for your message.

I do not get the crusties - the eye is just bloodshot in the corner and the eye sometimes twitches. I am long overdue for an eye exam so may make an appointment over the holidays.

hi karen, ok, then it sounds like something else may be causing your bloodshot eye. Allergies perhaps? i just didnt want you suffering like i did if it was the same symptoms -

Thank you so much Debra! You have inspired me to get this checked out! Take good care!

      Hi Karen,

Thank you so much for replying to my post and sharing your experiences. It sounds so similar to mine. I have the heavy head as well as pressure in various parts, one of the 3 neurologists I saw said that it is a combination of tension headaches (mainly around my eyes and forehead as well as my neck tension and soreness) and chronic migraine or some sort of variant or it. But you are absolutely right, it is all a guessing game for them, in this day and age surely they would be able to diagnose and help us. However, I think the issue is that it is predominantly women who suffer from these issues and this is probably why there is less research done in this area. Menopause is such an unknown and from my reading of forums like this one, I have just seen so many women who suffer with symptoms similar to ours and doctors refuse to recognise it as a hormonal issue let alone trying to get to the source of the condition to help us. I hope for you the symptoms start to settle once your hormones do also. Are you on any medication at the moment?

OMG, I just started getting the cracking neck thing. So annoying. This is somewhat off topic in this thread, but does anyone notice irritation in vagina area. I have increased discharge and irritation but got everything checked out at Dr. with nothing out of ordinary. Minor and it comes and goes- not too bothersome but noticeable. Is this a peri thing? I am 44.

Hi Jen - I couldn't agree with you more! I am not taking any medications other than the vitamins I've been taking for many years (calcium, D3, Centrum Silver for Women, magnesium, probiotic). I was going to explore BHRT but the out if pocket costs for the doctor visits make it cost prohibitive. Gave up coffee and cut out sweets for the most part. Acupuncture can be relaxing; I'm taking time off for the holidays and will have time for some more sessions. I recommend it if you haven't tried it.

Thanks Karen 😃 I am on most of those vitamins too, I do find them helpful, especially the magnesium and the probiotic for my tummy issues (that's a whole other story!) It's funny you mention the acupuncture, I have been meaning to try this. It is on my list of things to do for next year as I have just spent so much money on tests, medications, specialists etc this year that I have very little left in the kitty atm! I am glad it helps you, I will definitely give it a try.

My neck cracks and crunches when I move it all the time now, it is terribly annoying and often painful too. As for the irritation of the vagina, I myself have not experienced this but I am sure I have seen others who have. Maybe check some of the other forum topics.

I have/had all of the above as well. It's so frustrating because i never know from day to day how I will feel. You are definitely not alone! I'm so glad I found this site as I was beginning to think it was all in my head.

Of all the symptoms you mentioned, the only one I don't have is lighter periods. I have had 10 days of heavy bleeding and 14 days of spotting in the past 29 days. I had two heavy periods two weeks apart with spotting all in between. I have an internal ultrasound latwr this month.

Prior to the constant period, my biggest complaint was my vision.

    Hang in there. xo
