constant phlegm in throat

i was diagnosed october 13 with a hiatus hernia,the reason i knew something was wrong was the constant lump in my throat which became worse when lying down,i suffered many years with this until i requested to see a specialist,the results a hiatus hernia.this lump in my throat im experiencing is causing major problems for me having panic attacks now as this lump is there all the time and wakes me in the night several times with a choking sensation.i am at my wits end with this im scared to go to bed as i know exactly what will happen i will drop off to sleep and within 15mins-half hour i will wake feeling im choking.i have been given a sedative by my doctor who says im imagining the lump in my throat by the way,when i took the sedative i did have a good nights sleep but the thought of having to sedate myself every night when i go to bed horrifies me.has anyone else experienced this please help;-(((((

    Hi Michelle, I was told i had a sliding Hiatus Hernia a couple of years back. It does make you feel like there is a lump in your throat, only sometimes for me, food gets stuck at the back of my throat too. I have had to cut out loads of stuff in my diet to keep the acid reflux at bay!!. No tablets have worked for me, only made the pain worse!!. I live with constant pain under my ribs and in my back, i was scared it was my liver but ultra sounds and bloods suggest not. My stomach is always like a baloon and feels it will burst at times!!!. This is coming up to my 3 year of still not knowing what causes the pain!!, do you have other symptoms??. I was also told it was all in my head!!!.

      thats awful.mine is a hiatus hernia so i presume that means it stays in one place.other than the phlegm in the throat not really,i think its because of the throat im having the panic attacks.its not just a feeling of phlegm i am constantly clearing my nose and throat like wen you have a cold.it dont matter what i eat or cut out the lump remains im so fed up:-((((

      yes i have that too, always having to swallow, feeling of blocked or bunged nose by the evening and loss of taste!
