Constant prodrome symptoms?

Hi everyone,

Just new to this forum but been suffering but have been diagnosed with herpes (type 2) for almost a year now. I contracted it at least 18 months ago (misdiagnosed for 6 months) and was wondering if anyone could help. I constantly get prodrome symptoms - mainly a tingling in my bum cheeks (sorry) - I get this almost every day. My vulva is red and irritated looking about 90% of the time. I was diagnosed from a swab of a small, almost paper-cut looking slit on my vulva. Other than that no blisters, no flu or anything like that. So I guess in some ways I'm lucky. But I can't get my vulva to stop looking so inflamed and it gets itchy! I feel like I have been to every GP and Sexual Health Clinic. I've tried Valtrex (1 a day suppresive for a month - made things worse), famvir (5 day dose - no change) and most recently, acyclovir (2 per day for 1 month - stopped the tingling but didn't stop the red irritation). Was just given some anti fungal cream (timodine) to try and stop the irritation - tried today and it actually felt like burning, I had to wash it off! I thought after a year this would calm down, but my 'down there' never looks or feels normal anymore. I take a Lysine supplement every day (although have just checked and it does containt magnesium stearate - is this bad?). Any tips or anyone suffering the same symptoms? I can't even consider getting into close to anyone until I get at least some periods of relief! Thanks so much.

    Hi Sarah,

Herpes affects each person differently. The blisters or blemishes can appear anywhere on your body. Your reaction to the virus can be mild or more severe. I'm taking a 500mg tablet of L-Lysine four times a day and a 400mg Acyclovir tablet twice a day. I first started having symptoms about two months ago and my symptoms (number of and type of blemishes) seem to be lessening. Frankly, I don't put any stock in eating pineapple everyday. If you look at the nutritional make up of pineapple, you'll see that you'd have to eat extremely large quantities everyday to get the same benefit of taking L-Lysine tablets.

I do think it may be important to watch your intake of nuts and seeds. The day after consuming about a cup of mixed nuts, I had several new blemishes. It may have been a coincidence, but it's worth watching. As others have said, watch your L-Lysine/Arginine ratio.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am currently having what I think may be my worst outbreak so far, constant itching and coming up on pimples on my bum, my legs are itching like mad, it's really hard to stay positive. I previously tried taking 400mg acyclovir twice a day - it stopped the tingling but was still red down below. I'm wondering if maybe I should ask for a 3 month dose to see if it might take a while to fully help? I even went to a herpes specialist here who told me herpes does not look like this and thinks I was misdiagnosed (despite the tingling, the red itchy vulva, the swab coming up positive...) it seems people don't want to believe it isn't always the 'typical' outbreak you hear about. Just wondering it took anyone a while (longer than a month) for suppressive therapy to start working for you? Thanks very much.

I WENT BACK TO THE DR AND THEY DIAGNOSED ME WITH UTI AND YEAST IVE TAKEN ALL MY MEDS STILL RED AND SWELLED NO BURNING OR TCHING THO THEY FOUND NO SORES ON THE INSIDE OR OUT IDK WAHT T DO IDK IF THIS IS NORMAL EVERYBODY I HAVE TALKED TO SAID THEIRS HAS CLEARED UP I WONDER IF IT IS HSV1 OR SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG WITH ME DID YOU EVER GET ANY HELP OR FIGURE ANYTHING OT FOR YOUR PROBLEMS?

I don't get the swelling and redness, but redness sometines in the inside; however i get the crawly and tingling sensation that makes me scratch on my buttock, back of legs and vagina. Valtrex actually made those sensations worse for me and took a month off meds, to experience very minimal symptoms. However being on meds, I still would break out once or twice a month.

Have your symptoms cleared up yet?

      Hi

Did you ever find a solution for your problems? I'm having the same thing exactly and antivirals are doing nothing. It's been months now, any advice would be welcomed.

      Thanks

Hi, I know this post is really old, but literally your symptoms are EXACTLY like mine- to a T! I have constant inflammation and shooting tingling nerve pains every single day. Like you, I only had 1 sore and that was my first outbreak. I was misdiagnosed so many times before I even discovered t was herpes. It's getting so emotionally exhausting to deal with...it honestly has me contemplating suicide, and it's only been about 10 months for me . I'm on 1 gram of Valtrex, and while that sometimes will Janae to get my symptoms under control for a few weeks, it's never too long before they recur and won't go back to being dormant for weeks at a time. Have you found anything that has allowed your symptoms to subside?? I'll try almost anything at this point...I'm in college, In a sorority, and this is destroying what is supposed to be the prime of my life. Please let me know how things have been going for you! Wishing you the best.

Hi Sarah, I've got almost exactly the same and it's been happening everyday for 3 months straight. Did you ever get to the bottom of it all?

Hi Sarah, I feel exactly the same constant burning and red down there. I haven't found anything to help. I'm taking antivirals but they stopped working after 25 years. I was told to try vitamin b12 sublingual. I am taking that also but it's not helping. Wish I had more for you but just wanted to respond that I'm in the same situation.

Hi I've been positive for about 5 years. I've never had the severity of symptoms that you seem to be having, but I do use other treatments while I'm having an outbreak. They at least help with some of the pain and itching. I made a mixture of peppermint oil and coconut oil, I used petroleum jelly as a base. Coconut oil has strong antiviral and antifungal properties, the peppermint oil has a great cooling effects that soothes any discomfort you might be having almost immediately, mix them into a base of petroleum jelly one time I used in antibiotic ointment simply because it was an open wound, I mixed this together and applied it after cleansing the sores. I also would sit in a bath that had a little sea salt or baking soda with nice hot water and soaking them in the tub to help dry them out. And after the tub I'd fly the mixture. I'm very sensitive and these things health 2 speed my healing time and helps me feel more comfortable. I hope this helps you at least a little bit good luck! Feel better
