Constant SVT... New diagnosis, I don't know what to expect.

My doc just diagnosed me with SVT. Can this really be true? 3 weeks ago I noticed this weird feeling in my throat and chest. Tightness and pounding. My blood pressure was high. I just thought I would have to go on BP meds. Then I noticed my heart rate on my fit bit. It was over a 100. I had blood work and everything came back normal. They did an EKG. Normal I assume since I didn't get a call about it. My doc gave me Propranolol to take up to three times a day for it. My question, after reading about SVT in this forum, is 1. Is this really SVT? Because my heart rate is over 100 almost constantly 24/7 according to my fit bit and has been for months apparently. and 2. Do I need to see a cardiologist? My doc did not seem all that concerned. 3. what caused it? I did not notice this feeling in my throat/chest before except a couple of times in the past with panic attacks.
