Constant throat clearing because of thick phlegm

Every day (and worse at night) I am constantly trying to clear my throat of thick mucus/phlegm - and when I am finally successful at getting some out, it's a small amount of white sticky stuff that looks like it shouldn't be a problem but it is! This has been going on since April 2020. Nobody has an answer. It is driving me crazy and my hubby often sleeps elsewhere because of the constant hacking/throat clearing. Seriously, I can't live like this - there HAS to be something going on that doctors haven't found. I even had my esophagus dilated as a "maybe this will help" procedure - nope. I am at my wit's end. Is there someone here who can give me guidance?

Hi Tallbarb.... it sounds like postnasal drip that is running down the back of your nose and collecting in your throat....thats when your body reacts with a cough to stop it entering the airways. Try a nasal spray before bed. Look for one that is just saline. You could try one that is for children at first to see how you get on and then work up to an adult type. I dont recommend steroid nasal sprays as they eventually thin out the nasal linings and you get nose bleeds.

Your problem is quite common and always becomes more troublesome at night.
