Constant urge to have a bowel movement! Tenesmus??

Hello my name is Jenn, I have had all tests for Gastro problems and all has come back normal.  Colonoscopies, Endoscopies, and recently a abdominal MRI with and without contrast.  I was diagnosed with IBS about 15 years ago.  Alternating diarreha and constipation, cramping especially after a bowel movement, excess gas and bloating.  My question is sometimes now and in the past I have a constant urge to go number 2.  I get there and sometimes nothing happens or I go but then still feel like I have to go again or pass gas.  I read this is called Tenesmus..driving me crazy...anyone have any advice

Sounds so familiar but my doctor never said that urge had a name, so it's a new word for me.  There isn't much that you can do other than diet and perhaps medication for the cramping. My doctor prescribed Chlordiazepoxide clidinium Caps for the cramping and it does help and quiets things down.  The only problem is, when I take it too long, or take it three to four times a day for a couple of days, it constipates me.  I have the same issues you are suffering with, especially when my ulcerative colitis comes our of remission.  The IBS along with that is such a pain and such a life control.  Until I go back into a remission and things quiet down, I can't go out to eat nor do I go out after I have eaten at home, for at least an hour or so. Having continual urges to go, only to get there and nothing happens or very little, is so annoying because it's a back and forth ritual that continues all day because you have to eat something!

yes, exact problem i am going through.

change your diet, have boiled chicken with garlic, curry powder and salt, or bisto gravy, garlic and salt and have 1 banana with empty stomach before lunch.

lactose free milk, or any dairy product.

i'm suffering same but eating above calms my stomach the next day and continuing same i'm settled but i get tired of same so i eat something nice for a treat and suffer.

IBS is something i've accepted to live with for life and have moved on, im currently on Mebeverine 3 times a day.

i recently went for colonoscopy results were clear.

everyday is a different pattern, but above food diet has helped me at least i can work normally even if i hate the same food.

I also have IBS-A (alternating) as well as bloating, urgency and sometimes multiple bowel movements in a day. What has really helped me is the s diet which reduces fermentable carbohydrates. Low residue diets are also helpful for some.

A typical day for me is usually:

breakfast - fish/free range chicken or lamb with ginger, herbs/cooked salad greens and lemon/lime/vinegar (and sometimes a few slices of courgette)

lunch - jasmine rice with a tin of mackerel and vinegar

dinner - a variation on breakfast

snack - jasmine rice with salt and vinegar/a tablespoon of shelled hemp seeds/a tablespoon of almond butter/herbal tea/lemon tea

Keeping my fibre intake low helps to greatly reduce (and often eliminate) symptoms, and slow cooking meat makes it tender and easy to digest. I often buy fatty cuts to make my meals more filling, as I struggle to eat large quantities without symptoms. Vegetable fats are very difficult for my digestion.

Ah! I have that too. Or if maybe there would be an event or I need to go out, the anxiety of having a flare up causes me to overthink and then I feel like I want to go to the loo and then there's nothing and once I am all ready, dear tummy acts up!

I TOO have this horrific malady. There is NO magical pill. I believe that once you get it, it owns you for life 💔💔
