Constant waking throughout the night like clockwork

Hi - I’m a healthy 33 yr old me who had until 2 months ago no sleep issues what so ever. I went through a stressful period 2 months ago. Whilst that period is well and truly behind me, my sleep has never been the same. This is what happens.

Get to bed midnight. Fall asleep within 5mins

Wake up 30 mins later - get back to sleep straight away

Rest of the night I continue to wake up every 1.5-2hrs without fail. Sometimes I wake up hot and with light sweat on forehead. Other times there is no sweat. I can usually return back to sleep within 5–15mins.

I seem to be dreaming a lot more than I use to. Whilst I’m getting 6-7hrs a sleep a night I don’t feel refreshed in the morning due to the constant waking.

How can I reset my sleep cycle?

Doctor has given me Valium 5-10mg to take nightly for a week. I’ve only tried one night at 2.5mg which resulted in the wake up times to be pushed out to every 2hr exact. But it was a very low dose I tried. My preference is to do this naturally and not take 5-10mg of Valium for a week.

Thanks

I think the valium should be very short term, as its main purpose is to remove anxiety.  It is very effective, short term, for putting you to sleep.  When I was travelling on long distance flights (eg 8 hours), i used to take 10mg before the meal was served and immediately slept all the way (until pre-landing instructions).  Great way to deal with otherwise jet lag.  I needed to buy outside the UK where prescription rules are quite different

No.  For long distance flights, i was initially groggy for a very short period, and then carried on with life in the different timezone

Update: I have done a stocktake of my diet and supplements over the last 2 months. I have noticed that last 4-6 weeks I have started taking vitamin d supplements. I have come across number of stories on the internet where vitamin d supplements have impact sleep. I will stop these supps and see if it makes a difference. Probably not but worth a shot! Will report back.
