Constipation

It's been three days and I can't make my stool pass because it's big and too hard. I've tried laxatives and stool softeners hoping that it would soften the end part of the stool but no luck. Felt the urge to go to the bathroom a couple of times but nothing will come out. I feel like this is so life-threatening.

Hi after 3 days this is not life threatening but must be uncomfortable. My child had same problem and at one point didn't go for 5 weeks. Luckily she is fine now. She had to take movicol and dulcolax to help shift the blockage but prior to this she had picolax and dulcolax which was like dynamite. You need to visit doctor as you need medication and examination to see if there us a blockage. Let me know how you get on. This is a very common problem. Drink lots of water and plenty of exercise. Good luck!

Thank you for replying. I have GERD so I needed to eat small meals every three hours. Then took a lot of water and fiber hoping that it would reach the end part of my large intestine. So my stomach got really large, and I coudn't sleep because the body really wanted to poop already. First day I tried dulcolax tablet to encourage pooping. Then tried the dulcolax syrup to soften it. Then, when that didn't work, I tried dulcolax suppository. It was finally forced out by induced peristalsis. My sphincter got so stretched that it now hurts, but internet literature says the body can heal it. I'm glad your daughter is fine even after 5 weeks! May I ask, how was her stool at that time? When you said it worked like dynamite, did the medicine managed to soften it enough to let it out, or was it forced out even if it was hard?

She was passing watery stool initially because she was so impacted it was impossible to pass, so the problem was getting worse if anything. When she got picolax and dulcolax it got very messy. It was very watery for the first day then it came out as solid, she got such a fright! Then it was soft and got more normal over the two days. It came easily no force needed. Because it's a prep taken usually before bowel surgery to empty bowel. Apparently the bowel can take time to shrink as it was stretched over time. She is taking maintenance dose of 2 movicol sachets a day and half a spoon of dulcolax at night. It's doing the trick as she goes to toilet at least once a day. Hope this answers your questions. Suffering from this problem is miserable. Let me know how you get on.
