Constipation 4 weeks after gallbladder removal?

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi! It will be 4 weeks on Wednesday since I had my gallbladder taken out. I am recovering really well but find that I have to take laxatives every night otherwise I can't go properly and end up feeling bloated and uncomfortable. Is this normal? I've only really read about people having diarrhoea after removal.

I concerned about taking laxatives all the time.

I had my gallbladder first removed nearly 4 years ago then last year I had to have further surgery there.  Since the first operation I too am prone to constipation rather than diarrhoea.  Apparently this can happen.  It doesn't matter how I eat or drink, it is just the way I am.  I take movicol prescribed by my GP.  I have been told that I need to encourage my intestines so that I don't get a blockage. Do seek medical advice.  Good luck
