Constipation and persistent bloating for 2+ years

I’ve had bowel issues for many years now, and about 3 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS-C. I haven’t been able to go properly since, I used to get really bad stomach pain randomly and I don’t get that now, I still get pain but it’s not a big issue like it was back then. For the past month or so I have been going in little bits but still feel blocked after going. I took laxido for a bit but stopped as 8 packets wouldn’t even work, laxatives aren’t working as well anymore I still feel “blocked” after and they’re making me feel ill. I have had a blood test for celiac and it was negative, my ferritin is 10, vitamin D is low and ESR is 20 (slightly raised, but they weren’t concerned since the previous blood test in 2015 was also like that) I always need to pee, I can go and need to go again straight after sometimes. But I do drink a good amount (around 3 litres) but I’m very active, walking, running and weights. I’m going back to the doctors but had to wait 3 weeks for the next appointment. I’m worried they’re going to say it’s in my head, that it’s IBS (as that’s what the last GP passed it off as) but I feel like things have changed but not got better. I think they has been an increase in passing bits but I can’t remember the last time I felt like I had a complete evacuation, and although I’m passing very small amounts they’re soft and thin. I’m always tired and feel breathless.

I just want some advice on what to do until then, any suggestions or opinions that I should go? I don’t want to be accused of wasting time or be told I’m being  dramatic.

Does this just sound like really bad IBS or does it suggest something else?

Also it seems most of my levels like Full blood count have all decreased slightly since 2015.

I had low ferritin in 2015 at 28 (wasn’t told this at the time) although I was already on iron tablets and stuff.

Also my TSH was 1 and T4 was 14 which have decreased since 2015.

I know that they’re in range but could they be too much on the normal low side and that could be the issue?

I’m just fed up with it, the bloating which is almost always present, and constipation is really affecting me.

That's not in your head it's a change in bowel habits. This sounds wrong I have ibsc too but my bowel is never that bad, you may have really terrible stones somewhere or a blockage I don't like the fact that after so many laxatives your bowel is unclear. It would take me 2 days to unblock my bowel even if I was in agony. I have diverticulosis on top of IBS and sometimes struggle like crazy.

I hate that I have to take so much to even go, my GP said 8 sachets of laxido should have definitely done something but for me it didn’t. I just worry about if they think I’m wasting there time, I’ve had bad experiences of hospitals and doctors due to IBS and other stuff.

And that sounds very painful for you, I wish there was more things doctors could do to help with this stuff!

Hmm are you sure your medication is working, ask your doctor for Fybogel, it's stronger as it has ispaghula husk in it. That will unblock your bowel as I take it for my diverticulosis it stops that in about 2 sachets. I suggest you do what you can to unblock your bowel, I drink no end of water, juices, and absolutely anything to unblock my bowels. Can you eat any vegetables? Keep everything bland and let us know how you get on.

Thank you I will suggest trying the fibre thing again, I had it when I was first diagnosed first alone and it didn’t increase the frequency and then in combination with laxido, but still didn’t improve the situation. But my GP said it’s probably normal for me not to go so I stopped going there and left it couple of years but I don’t want to go on like this anymore so I thought I would go see a different GP. So far he seems to acknowledge that there is an issue so I suppose at least that’s good.  I’ve tried a few natural suggestions with no help.

I’ll ring my GP and see if I can get it again, and try it in the mean time until I see him, there is no harm!

If you're doctor understands ask for all the tests you can, a change in bowel habits a change in tests and possibly medication. Good luck.

constipation can be caused by your medication. How old are you and what medication are you taken now.Have you tried suppositories .This might help you as i am finding out.I found recently that my  lactives were not helping me and when i went to my supermarket i spoke to  the pharmacist who recommended that i should try suppositories and they worked a treat

I’ve just started taking iron and vit d again, which may cause constipation but I have noticed no difference whilst taking them. Before I took nothing at all, I’ve tried peppermint oils, buscopan, indigestion tablets, fibre gel stuff, laxido, simulate laxatives and suppositories with little avail.

      Thank you though!

Also persistent peeing is dreadful, I have had that, low stomach pain and really sore on the right hand side it was a kidney infection.

It’s so irritating, have you found what works for you now to manage things?

Been there, everyday for 4 years and my stress trigger is my work. Anyhow, something helped me recently, upon waking up, I drink warm water. helps me go. I also drink LemonAid, bought it online,  mixed of turmeric, lemon and ginger, there's other stuff in there too, it helped me with bloating. I get severely bloated that it hurts to move. So those two helps. As much as possible, I don't drink cold water too.

    Hope that helps.

Hi tanilee, I know it sounds dreadful but I left work with my IBS bad as my boss thought it was a joke!!!! I now don't work so don't earn which is not very good as it means less money for us. It does mean my health can recover though. I need it today as all the stress of the last couple of days has made my bowel loose which isn't common for me.
