Constipation everyday

Hi, I’m a 45 year old female. Lately I’ve been having pain in my lower left side and sometimes goes to the right side. For the last few weeks when I go to the bathroom I feel like I can’t empty my bowels completely. Also my stools are hard and sometimes followed by mucus. I went to the gastro and after a few questions he said I have IBS. I asked if I could have a colonoscopy and he said didn’t recomend because I had no family history. I have another appointment wit another gastro next week, but I’m really scared. A year ago I felt the same pain which went away by itself. But since maybe 2 months ago my bowels changed and that is driving me crazy. Do you guys have similar experiences ? Oh, I also have back pain that irradiates to my leg.

Oh why does this sound familiar? Oh it's happened to me! Ask about diverticulosis not IBS, which I was diagnosed with in December only, I now use fybogel to help when the pain flares up. You can tell when it's flared up because you look 10 months pregnant. The symptoms I get normally last about 2 days, but the fybogel has got ispahula husk in it which helps empty your bowel. It's to do with fibre levels. And no it has nothing to do with family see someone else bowel changes must be investigated, see another doctor and good luck.x

Thanks Sam, I will ask every possible question. I’m writing down everything. I don’t get bloated though. My major complaints are the pain and constipation. I agree with you, investigate until we get (hopefully) an answer. Wish you the best

Maybe you can get a second opinion and maybe they can go and requests some tests in order to exclude other diagnosis. It's always better to have a GP that is hands on and you're comfortable with.
