Constipation with mono?

This is a problem I've had twice since getting diagnosed and I can't figure out what causes it... The first time was about two months ago and I haven't had it checked since it went back to normal, but it lasted for about a week. I've only had this problem for about three days, and while I can still go to the bathroom, it's hard and narrow stool which I've heard can happen with constipation along with slight bloating. I was thinking it could be dehydration since my eyes are dried out along with my nose like when I was dehydrated before with constipation, this has only happened since I got mono. Has anyone else had this?

Yup! It happened to me as well, for about the first four weeks after I was diagnosed. I am like clockwork normally, so it was very obvious to me when it happened. A friend who had mono a few years ago also said it happened to her. I tried the colace (stool softener) first but that didn't help. So then I tried Mirilax and it worked really well. I just took it at night before bed. Try that, but it should go away after a few weeks.

Hi Alle,
Constipation and bloating can be a horrible and frightening thing, this virus is so awful and the range of symptoms it can seem to cause is just so widespread. I do hope that this all settles down soon for you, just wanted you to know I had read your message and was thinking about you. Thankfully it wasn't something I experienced during the virus but I know it can be a horrible thing and different people's bodies can react in so many different ways to this awful virus.
Maybe some vitamins / herbs could be helpful, perhaps higher doses of Vitamin C (1000mg-3000pm per day) and also taking a B complex vitamin / magnesium daily. Taking a probiotic daily and peppermint can also be helpful for the stomach for sure. But of course always be careful to check for any interactions with other conditions / medication before starting vitamins / herbs, I'm no expert so always wise to check in with a doctor / herbalist for advice on these things before starting anything.
Hoping things settle down for you soon Alle and definitely drinking lots of water and keeping yourself hydrated is sensible for sure. Hang in there Alle, you will get through this and this virus and all of its symptoms does and do (eventually) go completely. Trusting in God with your recovery, I have faith that you are going to get better.
