Consultant reviews

Hi, I've been trying to find reviews on the surgeon who will be performing my THR.  He isn't listed at my hospital, nor any hospital in my area.  Mind, my hospital appears not to have updated its website since August 2014.  I've looked on the NHS choices website and he isn't listed there although if he's new to the area he won't be, and it won't let me check the whole of England, I have to be more specific.  Does anyone have any advice?  It doesn't help that hid name is Mr Smith eek

Thanks in advance, Celia x

Kettering General Hospital.  I have seen other discussions on here about surgeon reviews I'm sure.  I've actually just searched his name and 'orthopaedic consultant' and found him I think although it says he specialises in ankle and foot but also does hips.  The photo looks like him.  I can't post a link or the post has to wait to be moderated.

Have you tried a Google search, giving the surgeon's name, profession, speciality and location, yet?  I was able to find a surgeon that I was interested in, using that method.

Alternatively, I think you can find information on the British Medical Association website.

Have you contacted the hospital?  If you have not, remind them that their website is over a year out of date, and you need professional background, credentials, etc. on the surgeon, who is not listed anywhere.  I believe that you do have the right to know more about the surgeon who is performing such a major surgery.

Good luck, and let us know how you progress.

Hi Susie, see above, I found him on the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.   I'll look on the BMA website too, thanks x

Wrightington has a very important name in THR and a world wide reputatiòn.  If he did some of his training there he will have been well trained and be good.

Do they not all belong to The Royal College of Surgeons?

    Good luck Cathie

Good thinking Cathie.  I've had a look but there are so many 'Smiths' I'm going to have to find out more info from my hospital.  xxx
