Contact dermatitis on face

Hello my teenage daughter has been suffering with the symptoms of contact dermatitis for months, only just got it diagnosed by an allergist last week. She hasn't yet had a patch test done so there is no way of knowing what is causing the "episodes" however I've taken away all lotions, hairspray, perfumes, makeup products, etc that she had been using previously.

My reason for coming on here is to find out I'd anyone else has experienced these issues? And to inquire what helped you with the symptoms, i.e. the swelling, swollen eyes, dry cracking skin, redness, etc. any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, not on face, that is such a shame for your daughter. All I can suggest is unscented soap, and ask for a moisturiser from your doctor which is right for such a sensitve area. All pharmacies will suggest but I thiink a dermatologist or medical doctor would suggest and prescribe right medication or otherwise. Have you tried antihistamines, as previously suggested I would suggest taking these at night.

Thanks so much for your thoughts. She has been taking benadryl. She goes to the dermatologist soon. So I will be sure to ask about a moisturizer. Thanks for the thoughts.

Have you looked at your washing powder/liquid/tabs, whatever you use?

It was only after I had had patch testing, that I found out what I was allergic to.

    Good luck

Thanks so much for your reply. we really hadn't changed any detergents. until after seeing the allergist when it was suggested that we switch to a hypoallergenic soaps for everything ( laundry, hair body).

This is where patch testing is useful because even so called hypoallergenic products can have chemicals in them that she is allergic to and companies are notorious for changing the ingredients in their products, so the one for sale this week, may be replaced by 'new improved' or whatever.

Try to get your daughter patch testing, then you/she will know
