Continous pain/ hypertension/ breathing difficulty

Hi.

I will try and keep everything short. I am a 19 year old male who has been having difficulty sleeping for the past 3 days. Had any health issues before: no.

Issue: continuous chest pain in the left side, cant sleep.

Blood pressure is really high. Saw my GP 2 days ago, bp was

Appx 150/100. The following day, got my bloodtest, x ray for chest and ecg done.

Blood test result: normal, ecg normal too.

So, on 21st my surgery's nurse gave me a bo to monitor my bp for 7 days, to collect 28 readings by the end. I asked the nurse to do the bp and it was appx 128/70

Got home

16:30 bp 132/73 , 135/89 delay of some what 10 mind

17:58 bp 134/86

18:58 bp 163/111 serious chest pain+ serious headache+ getting more and more anxious

Ecg done again: normal,

19:23 bp 132/ 84, 135/ 83

19:45 bp 150/100 apex

Watched comedy stuff, tried my best to forget today and sat up at

23:25 bp 123/ 87

At all times there was continius pain in my left side of the lung near the heart. Whenever, I try to go to sleep bp touches the sky and goes sky high. If I lay down and ignore the pain no headaches whatsoever. One more thing, it feels as if someone punched me in the left side of chest and now its trying to come out.

Since I cant go to sleep I decided to type this on my phone, so do please excuse any mistakes that I might have made. Thank you.

You can have a normal ECG but still have a heart problem. I feel sure if you were to see a consultant he would recommend an echocardiogram (different to an ECG). If you're still suffering the same symptoms, why not take yourself to A&E, especially in view of your young age. Better to seek prompt investigation and reassurance rather than worry about it as that won't help the BP. Good luck.

Thank you, I would go to a&e but the doctors/ nurses don't really care whatsoever. I think they will

Just dismiss me and tell me to go see the gp. I am really in a tough situation as I cant move much, as soon as I do a physical task such as stand up, the heart beat goes higher / faster and I can feel the chest. As soon as this happens, breathing becomes harder too. I have spent the past two days in bed due to the amount if pain.

They can't/won't "dismiss" you - they have a great responsibility to you as a patient......and 'customer'! If it was me, I would take prompt action rather than allow whatever is causing your symptoms to get worse and then possibly more difficult to treat. If you are feeling insecure about going on your own, then I'm sure either a family member of friend would go with you.

You are as well pushing your GP to investigate ... there can be lots of causes for high BP. The A &E are probably ok with chest pain but as they are so stretched they will not do further investigation if you are 'safe' ...but GP can refer you to cardiologist etc and can prescribe BP tablets (worth looking up the NICE guidelines for hypertension to show what is recommended as treatment)

Keep pushing them as they don't always sort it straight away .. I'm 11 months down the line and only just starting to get answers and my bp was 220/110 when I first went to GP.

    good luck with it.

i experienced the same type of pain and symptoms.. I allways put it down to an injury and panic. Recently admitted to hospital for unrelated condition and through the processes of seeing different specialists, i was rushed to E/R a couple of times with high b/p. Anyway, cut it short. Had some tests and angiogram etc, it turns out its cardio artery spasm. This condition usually occurs when laying down or upon rest. My symptoms were much like yours and started when i was young. Im now 42. Im on a calcium channel blocker and cant really comment too much yet because im only on day 2. I must admit, the first morning i woke from my first nights dose, i felt clearer, not heavy in head and chest. Could be mind over matter yet. time will tell for me. If anybody you know has a bp machine, be interesting to check it next time you have an episode...This is how my bp investigation sort of started too.
