Continual stomach/oesophagus issues....

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has had/has the below symptoms:

* loss of appetite/ no hunger

* feeling of lump in throat - mainly after eating

* bloating - sometimes a burning sensation in tummy

* fullness quickly

* general feeling of overall discomfort which makes me feel sluggish

I definitely know I can't tolerate too much wheat well nor alcohol. I've had than endoscopy/colonoscopy and it came back with "gastritis". I've been on nexium 40mg and somac 40mg but doesnt seem to be helping so I dont think its  reflux issue. I've now been seeing a naturopath and taking some herbal mixtures which has helped with the bloating on some days. I know diet definitely makes a difference but I feel I've not got to the root of the problem. This has been going on for about a year now and of course I am worried given it hasn't cleared itself.

Has anyone experienced the same thing or have any suggestions? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi

I have had the symptoms you mentioned last year was the worst. I thougth this is part of the aging process I'm experienceing now.  I'm 46 women. If you are like my age and gender, this could be part of meno or peri changes.. To me I've had lemon water in the morning starting from last year and this seems to be helping a lot to ease these symptoms. Take care

    Hi there,

I have had and sometimes still get the same symptoms. I got stool tests done privately which showed Dysbiosis. I had yeast overgrowth and bacterial imbalance and parasites. I'm sure it was due to having taken lots of rounds of antibiotics (which kill off good and bad bacteria) and eating a very sugary diet for a while plus alcohol (again which feed bad bacteria and yeast) I also got food poisoning and a chest infection a few months before this all happened and my immune system just went to pieces. I like you had to know the root cause to be able to mentally get around it, although many people don't bother to do the tests and just get treatment which I'm sure would still be beneficial too but there is obviously a bit of guesswork.

thanks for your reponse. I've had a lot of tests done and a colonoscopy. I'll definitely need to cut back the sugar and alcohol. How long did it take you to get to the bottom of it?

hi, yes l,m another. Started 2yr ago, with bouts of nausea daily lasting several weeks, about 3-4bouts in l8month, l,d noticed before then l felt full often after small amount of food, bloated uncomfortable, more tired. From october 6month ago the nausea became more peristent, debilitating, often disabling with exertion doing jobs or walking any distance, needing to sit often panting with heaviness till it settled.During this time l went off food, couldnt face meals, lost a bit of weight, but more inactive, lived off tea oat biscuits, in evening if settled a bit could manage a bit of chicken in slice of bread, or crackers n spread, bio yogurt, at best a little mash and fish, a doz fries, all baked without oil, want off my usual morning cereal and milk, and most wet foods r soup, gravy, but could eat egg custards, odd. l,d tried chemist meds, knew l,d acid reflux from years earlier, but hadnt bothered me since gall bladder removed. Saw gastrologist, scope and scan showed bit of gastritus, l,d to stop cimetidine taken for years for intersticial cystitus and reflux, also kefalexin taken as preventative for ic. Put omparazole, l,d also get achy throat at times, raw tongue, omprazole didnt help much, was also trying ginger tea, probiotics, same plain small snacks, but felt l was getting little vits, mins or protein, got supplament drink for that. l,d long standing allergies, rhinitus penicillin, sensative to many meds, even pain killers, alcahol became a no go also. l think lve a poor immune system and allergy prone, maybe my stomachs been affected by long standing use of anti bs, although consultant wont say that or give reasons, l,d also been prone to thrush and at one stage given pessaries for anti bacteria, parasite, candida,  Saw doc yesterday  who talks about phycalogical, nothing new there, but was told that for years over severe  symptoms which were eventually diagnosed as intersticial cystitus, through scope, with meds reducing symptoms 90percent, l accept phycological can aggrevate, despite that he wants me to try anti emetics which l,m wary about due to side affects, which l think can be a bit drastic and cause increased tiredness, l,m tired enough as it is,  but also think lve not got to root of problem, l,d like more extensive tests to try find if there is a particular cause, but with nhs docs its more difficult, l,d to push to get gastro and scan done, on going thing with docs and l dont like going in anyway, but  notice my nails are breaking down now, so wonder about calcium, l guess poor diet doesnt help with it all. So for now going to try lactose free diet, and small amounts of better food that l can tolerate. Long ramble over, still battling with it myself, so just to let you know your not on your own, but there is masses of advice diets on Gastritus thread, good luck to all

Hi Lynne, thanks so much for the response. Gosh, sounds like its been a struggle. I can only empathise as I thought my symptoms were bad! Its just so frustrating the not knowing exactly what the cause is so the fix is never easy. I wonder what other extensive tests they can do? I find the hardest part is trying to remain social and positive when there are strange things going on with your body that people can't relate to. It's good to know I'm not on my own, so thank you for your comment.  I'll check out the threads on gastritis. Keep me posted on how you go.

      Hi,

I'm with you regarding remaining social and positive , you can't really eat  very well at parties or get together, nor you don't want to explain to everyone your health issues, if you know what i mean, you are surrounded by people celebrating having fun and here you are thinking about what might trigger the problem if you eat .sometimes i don't want to socialize anymore.hope you are ok .take care for now.

I have gastitis, it started with a bit of nausea and then my appetitie went for a few weeks. I didnt really have anymore symptoms at the time just the loss of appetitite and the odd oesopeghus spasms. Thankfully my appetite finally returned but i seem to get the burning after meals in the chest then. It seems to have quietened down but im never sure if it has finally healed or not. I stopped tea and coffee for a while and i think fatty foods dont help! Im not sure what triggered mine, hormones because I am 51, or stress as I was under alot of stress at the time, hiatas hernia (i have one) too much coffee? I drank quite a bit, too much red wine? ( love that) or was it a combination of things. It doesnt help getting side effects from the drugs whichvare suppose to be helping, it makes the original problem worse than what it was! It is such a horrible thing to have because Im not really sure how to deal with it!

hi also understand monik and diamonds feelings about socialising, l guess some will say they do remain posative and manage, but l find it really difficult, maybe if youve a good partner and big family it helps a lot, if not a struggle. Problem is not just people not understanding, but believing you if you try to explain, sometimes its hard enough to get docs to believe how bad it affects you, and easy for them to fall back to phycalogical, more so it tests come back negative, and this seems to happen to so many now, just happened to my son, he,s 32 had bad pain went to  a and e, results neg, now he knows how lve felt, l dont doubt anyone now, no one wants pain ill health, l,d years of it with i c,bit rare unless you get right consultant to scope, so gps went from gyny to hormone, finally on to phycalogical, hypacondriac etc, felt worse after surgery visits, and some old friends ok, some not, cynical,  some people dont believe how others feel unless experiencing it themselves. Last good night out over a year ago had a few drinks, ill for a week after it, who,d believe it, now dont really drink, loved the odd g and t,  meals out , no one likes people  being unreliable either, but its like everythings got to be spontaneious, social event, day out on the odd most settled times, if anyones about then,  yet boring and frustrating, bad days you can get down. It does seem people around you are having normal life, eating whatever, drinking, long distance hols, l get notification for fb about new pics of people l know celebrating, exotic  holidaying  and they take it for granted, makes me feel like a freak, what you get dealt, others get worse. But keep battling trying new solutions,  and live in hope to get on top and do what we want.   So good luck to all with remedy and fitness.

Exactly. Some would be so heartless  to even invite you to gym classes to join them. I 'd love to, I tried so hard to lose weight since it would be the major issue for GERD sufferer,it would be uncomfortable burping every now and then while exercising with them. I exercise alone so even I burp with the music and the reps no one would mind at all .I even attended a party where the hostess  keeps telling me try this pasta (which is completely covered in tomato sauce) .Do i have to excuse myself  now from almost anything?Another one even suggested the 7 day diet  wherein the fourth day woulld be tomato diet, you would only eat tomato for that particular day.I just thanked them and went on with my life. Thanks for all the input. it is appreciated. have a lovely day.
