continuous bleeding on the pill

Posted , 2 users are following.

I was put on loestrin 20 (the pill) for right sided pelvic pain and period/ ovulation pain by my GP which gyni recommended. I started it on the first day of my period as it says on the packet 13 days ago. However, I am still bleeding ( was low flow for the first week  and now it is quite heavy) and normally my periods only last 6-8 days.

Is this normal to happen?

Getting lightly worried now.

Are you on this just for Pain? Because if it makes you bleed more it may not be the med for you? it will make you anaemic from heavy bleeding..then you will feel weak and drained. I would go back to your Doctor.

You may have to try different pills before it settles down, it's your body's way of trying to get used to the chemical change do to the meds. Also if could last for as long as 3 months at a time or even stop all together for months at a time. Don't panic this is actually normal. The same thing happens if you where to stop taking you birth control pills all together, as your body would go through a chemical change as it is trying to release the meds.
