Contraception pill weight gain

hi I need some help.

I used to be on the combined pill for around 7 years when I stopped the pill and tried going back to it 6 months later I had serious headaches and bad side effects.

I went to the doctors and they prescribed me the progesterone only pill. I have been on this pill about a year, in this year I have made no changes to my diet if anything I eat healthy and exercise more but I have gained over 2 stone, could this be linked to the pill?

if I was to come of if what else could you advise I try?

my weight is really bothering me but of course I need to still stay protected.

please help
