Hi Julie:  Be sure to write down all of your questions that you will have for your doctor.  On my first appointment with my Pulmonary Specialist, I did not do that and had MANY questions afterwards.  My heart and prayers are with you....let us know how your appointment goes.  Hugs

If it is mild enough Julie they may not prescribe anything or just a blue inhaler (reliever) which would be a good thing as a lot of the things they prescribe have side effects so hopefully not anything else.

What tests did they do that show COPD? Did you ever smoke, live with a smoker or work in a bad environment (dust, chemicals etc)? I ask because normally if one had COPD you see a pulmonologist. Also do you have any symptoms?,

Read up about it on this site and under no circumstances should you google it. That way lies fear & craziness, so to speak.

Hi again Julie....I agree 100% with aitarg......do NOT Google COPD....it just promotes unnecessary fear. If you haven't yet seen a doctor, don't even think about someone giving you a diagnosis. I wish I had been warned about Google and misinformation that when I was first diagnosed. This is a great site with lots of support.

My heart just goes out particularly to those that are newly diagnosed with COPD.  Just the sound of it is scary.  I have received SO much insight and comfort from the others on this website.  There is so much that can be done now to make the disease easier to handle and to accept.  Thank you to ALL participants....we need to stick together!   XOX to all

Yes we need to stick together for sure.  I too looked up emphysema and thought I had 2-5 years left.  Once I found this site, I felt much better.  I am so thankful to those who responded to me with such kindness and supportive messages.  The information was significant and made me feel relieved that I was in fact going to be around for a long time 😊

    Hi Julie

If 'they' are not sure if it is your heart or lungs perhaps you should ask for a referral to a respiratory consultant at the hospital, they you will be properly assessed regarding your lungs and cardiac scans.   Especially if you have been poorly for a long time.

You can learn a tremendous amount about COPD and how to manage it best by GP referral to a Pulmonary Rehabilitation course.  Also information on the British Lung Foundation website into/links from this page link:

    https://www.blf.org.uk/

Hope you get sorted and soon are breathing easier.

    Best wishes V
