I don't have a leg disease but did get hit by a car and was told I wouldn't walk again and might have to amputate my leg, but I got it pinned together and have struggled with it for 15 years and can do everything normally like gym and work and think it's better than not doing so much. The copd gets me down though but I'm sure I've been misdiagnosed so waiting for a referral

Hi with mild emphysema you will have few if any symptoms. It sounds like you are very fit anyway which is good.
Don't you get an annual review with a respiratory nurse? Do you have a spirometry test? Have you had one since your diagnosis? This would say whether you have emphysema or not.

Hi Druwho
I think your copd is very mild if you can do 7-10 miles most night and 2 hours cardio in the gym, is that most days too? Its great the leg is not affecting how much you can do.
you say you had breathlessness when diagnosed are you prescribed any lung inhalers? I would be getting checks for heart as well if you are still experiencing the breathlessness and if you do get pains in the chest.
Its good you are able to do so much keep it up as long as you can. I know some people with Copd can walk miles. I used to be able to manage a couple of miles and I used to attend the gym 3 times a week but my gym sessions were only 30-45 mins. I found even then my lungs would hurt if I pushed too hard.
Currently not able to do the gym just manage short walks I don't know if I will improve again or this is how its going to be now.
The main thing is to try and avoid further lung infection as best you can, cold damp weather may put you more at risk as will contact with people infected with colds and flu.
Keep well and active but look after yourself with that leg, what does your doc say about exercise and the leg problem? You don't want to overstrain.

Hi Druwho, thanks.
I've never been able to achieve 2 hours exercise at once, since being diagnosed, if I try and push too hard I get lung pain and dizzy and I was exercising regularly for over 12 years 3-5 times a week. I can't do that now. I was knocked right back this past winter and have still not recovered fully, I think because I have further lung damage now.
I came across an interesting article (below is excerpt from ncbi gov site title 'Effectiveness of Interval exercise training for people with copd' if you want to search for it)
"Although in healthy elderly individuals and patients with chronic heart failure there is evidence that this training modality is superior to continuous exercise in terms of physiological training effects, in patients with COPD, there is not such evidence. Nevertheless, in patients with COPD application of interval training has been shown to be equally effective to continuous exercise as it induces equivalent physiological training effects but with less symptoms of dyspnea and leg discomfort during training. "
You know your own limitations of course but do be guided by what your own doctors recommend. Excessive exercise with a serious chronic health issues can be as detrimental as not enough I believe.
Best wishes V

Yeah I know what you mean I use to think like that aswell but I know 100% smoking is bad and 80% of me thinks vaping is safe so I'd much rather quit smoking using vape and then quit vape just makes it all so much easier
