Mucinex or syrup with guaifenesin  -  thins the mucus making it easier to cough up, also drink plenty of water to help keep the mucus thin. Check with your doctor.

Which country are you in? Mucus thinners go by different names in different places. Here in the States we use nebulizer a lot and, for me, the same meds in nebulizer form are more effective than as inhalers.

There are also various devices. And OTC gizmo you can get on Amazon & lots of sites is the A Cappella. But someone familiar with setting those needs to decide where to start t it for you & show you how to use it properly or it's useless.

If you don't have someone to pound your chest every day AFTER the mucus thinner has had time to work & then after the neb treatment, there are various machines which do the percussion for you while you wear a vest or wrap which is attached to the machine by a hose. I have one of these & it is stupid expensive here in the States. It's not nirvana but I don't feel like I'm strangling & my coughing tends to be productive & mostly limited to treatment times.

I'm in the same boat as you are. One thing I've found is a hot shower in the mornings, along with using a nasal rinse seems to break a lot of it up so I can get it out. If you're on oxygen it helps with the clogged nasal passages.

Ask your dr because it my be covered under insurance that way, or you can just go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for what is called a aerobika, they may have a different brands, but they all pretty much work the same way.  Avoid battery powered ones.

you will get an instruction booklet, you breath in and out of this plastic device, and it makes you lungs flutter.  I do it 2 times a day 20 minutes a day,  then I do 15 minutes of diaphragm breathing.  When your all done you do what I known as the huff cough.  If you have anything in your lungs it should come up.

I have a vibration machine and I sit on that for 5 minutes and soon after all sorts of productive coughing starts. Also I find massage works well from underarm up to shoulder using the opposite hand for 30 seconds. You can Google AN EASY METHOD FOR CLEARING CONGESTED LUNGS. By Jeff Bell. Good luck. xxx

Your doctor can prescribe something to help keep the mucus thinner making it easier to cough up.  Drinking plenty of water also has this affect.

I put the name in previous reply of the medicine but it is not yet approved by the moderator.

    Shandra:

You have been given a lot of good advice already. I also use the

accapello. I was on 02/ 24/7, but now I can go without it through

the day and keep the 02 up past 93 and 94, mostly 96. for around

6 hours a day with the help of the accapello.

(do you have a finger pulse ox adapter?)

I have not had a flare up in over a year and think every thing I

am doing is the reason. My doctor also put me on zithromyacin 250

    mg every day.

    I wish you well.
