hi everyone, found this site thank god, I'm 4 days after tkr and am managing just to bend to 84 but the physio reckons I'm not doing well, I'm up on crutches walking as well, I thought my pain barrier was good but it's obviously not. Any advice would be great.

    Well said everyone!

on my 2nd day in hospital my consultant asked me if I could lift my leg up!

    I said no I couldnt!

After he he had gone I told the nurse and I felt something was wrong.  She said don't worry,  should have replied to him,

im not able to lift my leg up, but I can lift my fist off the bed ,,,he's good at his job but never had a tkr.

Lifting the leg is one of the checks Dont worry about it. Its called 'straight leg raising' I didnt do it unti 5 days and it was about an inch

I concentrated on strengthing the quads and SLR was no bother after 3 weeks

Oh Sue, that is brill, I said to the torture ladies yesterday before I left that I would love to put an electro lode onto them and flick a switch for them to feel the intensity of the pain, them you would be more sympathetic to people who have had TKR, one said to me that they do what is written in the manual, my reply was that I was not a car going for a MOT.   Take care Gill x

You wonder if they ever go back for more training or just take what they learn in school and stay with it. I'm sure it's a global thing but here in the US all licensed professionals are mandated to take continuing educational courses every co up old of years for recertification. My therapist has a doctorate but still has to get CEUs. I went through his rehab protocol the 1st time in 2004. When I had the revision in 2013 I might as well have been going to a new therapist things had changed so much in everything except icing and hydration practices. 2014 rehab was the same and I expect when I start again this summer after getting the new knee gets put in next month, there will be minor updates as he is just finishing his biannual recertification. One problem I have always noticed, they can learn new protocol but you can't change an arrogant, know it all attitude with education. Sometimes additional education just adds to the bad personal traits.

I had TKR 3 years ago. You are certainly doing better than me. I was in hospital for 9 days and struggled to get to mid eighties then.

It does get better I promise. Hard work but well worth it in the end.

Take care and keep in touch

    Praying for you

hi Sarah, many thanks for the comforting words, trust me they do help knowing that in time it would have been worth it, just at the mo it doesn't feel like it.

I am lucky to have a good husband and I have friends on the compound where I am living, I really feel for the people on their own, and count myself very lucky.

      Thanks for the prayers.

      love Gill xx
