Coping strategies needed

Is there anyone out there who might be able to help me?

Ive suffered anxiety and depression throughout adulthood and I need to move forward when the anxiety isn't so bad -- it's a little better at the moment. Does anyone have any good coping strategies they use?  I struggle to go to the gym, walking and all sorts of things I used to enjoy for fear of meeting people -- it's almost like I have to justify everything

thank you for reading this

Hi, i know what you are feeling. Yes, that awfulness of not wanting tomgo out to anything, gym etc which cor normal, people seem easy.  I am still a work in orogress but i find if a friend comes and walks withme we can have a chat and the walking is just a facilitator.

can i ask what meds you have found to help tou get to this point where you are making progress.  Cbt is meant to be helpful. I am not so sure about it.

Thanks for your reply Ann. A work in progress sounds very positive.

I had earlier types of anti-d from age16-22 but there wasnt much counselling available then unfortunately and having seen a counsellor many years later (around 40) it helped me quite a bit. I think I would've channelled my anxiety better by talking to one person when I was growing up where I tended to tell too many friends when I was struggling and it spoilt some friendships.

In more recent years I had bad anxiety and stress and had venlafaxine on and off when I really struggled. It seemed to help but i had it 3mths ago and didn't see an improvement so I'm trying counselling again.

It's the day to day things I struggle with -- when I feel anxious everything stops and I find it hard to pick up the pieces. I'm not giving up though as it WILL get better.

      Good luck Ann xxxx

Hi… I have struggled with anxiety since kindergarten! So I truly know what you're going through. Yes go to counseling because it really help  to vent to someone else. I continue to go even when I start to feel better. There are some great meditative audios and anxiety and negative thinking you can listen to for free. You can find them on YouTube. I listen to them at night when I'm lying down

The other thing is one of the best ways to relieve my anxiety is exercise. I don't like really being around other people but I go anyway and  when I'm done my anxiety is lifted tremendously. We have to do this for ourselves and fight for our peace of mind and happiness. Don't let anything stop you because it's  your life and we deserve to be happy. Exercise releases endorphins in the brain which is a very healthy thing to do.  It's a known fact that negative thoughts and emotions and anxiety actually produce negative changes in the brain and positive actions and thoughts etc. produce positive changes in the brain. So be a fighter for yourself! I wish you the best

Thank you Jan. You sound like you cope pretty well with determination. I'm looking forward to the counselling. I agree that exercise is definitely good for the brain and I shall take more. Take care Mx

I went more spiritual.not religious its very different. Its different way to see all this and your life. Hay house has a lot on this. Its just having a bigger picture rather then believing you are alone in this world and one person, one mind. Its just a more universal understanding and understanding you are connected to a more broad conciousness. It ties into meditatiin and learning and awakening you, not your fears and negative stuff, but you. It helps peel away the layers of fear and confusion

i htink it is very easy to caught uo in the "body" and in "fear" but i have learned we are NOT one dimensional beings. ,we have a mind, a body and a soiriti (soul) and all three need to get attention and love and be connected. All three need healing. Fear runs very deep and intertwined itself in all of you. Until you honestly understand you are more then a body you stay in a horrible state of mind. Whether you realize it or not. There is something going on deeper within you from this glitz. The glitz of the fight ofpr flight is the effect of all this but to to manage it, live with it you have to learn and be able to go deep within you to find some piece of mind,

    Hi

I did lots of research into how anxiety affects the body and mind and picked up lots of good coping skills.

Which i still do every morning and night.

Mindful meditation 10  mins before i get out of bed and 10 minsa progressive muscle relaxation good for body and mind again can be done in bed too.

I eat a healthy breakfast and drink plenty of chamomile tea 🤓

And while i am getting ready for work i play possitive affirmations for anxiety and repeat them and use these throughout the day.

I also made my own personal mantra for any stressful situation.

If anyone could here my mantra that i say in my head.. they would think i was a crazy woman..

I say in my head... I am strong.. I am calm... I can do this xx

Just a few ideas for you.....xx

      Hi Gill

Thank you for your reply -- meditation seems to help many people -- maybe it's time I started and the camomile tea! Keep up your strength X
