Core muscle weakness help needed

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi all,

Thought I'd posted this but don't think it worked.

Does anyone else have any problems building up and maintaining core muscles? I have trouble standing from sitting, walking upstairs etc. because my core muscles are so weak.

Can anyone give me any advice for some easy yet effective ideas for strengthening glutes/quads etc?

Thank you!

Liz

Hi Sueliz; sorry, I would like some answers to this too; for although I felt for many years that I hadn't/wasn't actually losing my "muscle/s" as such, the weakness has always been there.  However, I have noticed a LOT of wasteage over the past 6 months or so, and am getting weaker, too.  The thing is that like most of us, I can get through a Long day, with aide of stick, but then have the rebound of the next week+ of feeling Utterly exhausted, and very weak.  I have consciously taken my extra Magnesium, calcium, etc but feel today to be just too much.

?I know they tell us to do "some exercise", but how?  Even the PACE  trial has been judged to be not effective......I have also been on a trial of Thyroxin, but found it too much for my body, but am thinking that I will trial it again?  Am sorry for being a sadsack today (and probably making you feel worse).

?So perhaps, if someone else comes on here, that has this condition for over 25 years, and has an answer, then we can trial that Hey?     Bron

      Hi Bron,

I really get what you say about having the rebound - I managed to do a couple of sessions of easy physio exercises earlier in the week but have had a dreadful couple of days since and missed out on favourite activities I had planned.

I'm looking forward to an official response to the released data from the PACE trial, you have the point about doing some exercise, it's just so difficult to manage, so I'm back to square one in my exercise/collapse on the sofa routine again.

Have you tried magnesium spray for very sore/aching muscles? It's quite good.

The yoga 'boat' pose is good for this. It looks really difficult to do but with practice it gets much easier!

Thanks Elaine, I looked it up - it does look hard but I might try it when I have more energy!!

Hi! I have recently started yoga, slowely but surely.  It's going to be a long process but I already feel more postive and have better days.  Even just doing one or two poses a day in your house could make a huge difference.  Yoga is touhg - but because your heart rate doesn't go up I find I don't feel ill fater, just better.

Thank you for your reply Katy. I was doing yoga, but as you said, it can be tough so after a couple of years I had to give it up, I do try to do some Qi Gong and Tai Chi moves on better days tho as they are much less strenous.

I agree with you that even doing some exercise in the house is hugely beneficial, but I frequently get the "bust" the next few days.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

      Keep up the yoga!!

I went to a remedial yoga class a few years ago and it definitely helped me. Had to stop going as the class got too advanced but did my own routine at home instead. Ended up not doing any yoga for a while as had to use my energy for other things but am determined to get back into it. Keep going with it - it does help!!

Hi, I think it might have been you that recommended a Qi Gong dvd a few months ago. Just to say I got in and managed to do a bit of it sitting down. Not had energy to try any for a while due to other things but will give this a go again. Think there was an 'energy ball' bit I really like and 'washing hair' type move I felt released stress. Thanks for the recommendation!

So glad you liked it Elaine! I know what you mean about the energy ball, it's real for me! I often do 4 repetitions as doing the 8, especially when you have to move your arms can be quite tiring.

It was using the arms so much I had a problem with too so I did fewer repetitions as well. Am thinking I could even just do the energy ball on it's own to get me back into it as I found it really relaxing - you really feel as if you are holding a big squeezy ball!

Well, they say that's the power of the universal energy! It's good whey it happens
