Corflex walking boot after trimalleolar fracture

Posted , 4 users are following.

I just got my cast removed today after having surgery via ORIF for a trimalleolar fracture to my right ankle 3 weeks ago.

I received a corflex walking boot today, still non weight bearing for 4 more weeks. but I'm having difficulty flexing my foot to get my boot on properly; my heel will not fully touch the back/bottom of the boot. any suggestions??!

i think you need to ask for help from a family membee or friend. I'm ahead of you in time - 12 weeks. 3 plates and 13 screws.

Our injury is considered very severe so at the moment I recommend feet up as long as you can. I was up 9 weeks,

Slowly do rotation exercises as per your dr and be prepared to be the most patient with yourself and those around you.

If you are not comfortable in the boot because you can't position in it then practice your flexing and rotation and leave the boot until it feels easier.

Maybe if there is an inner lining, just get help to position that on then if you can put the plastic of the boot around it.

You are very early, so only do what is comfortable for you and don't be afraid to check back with your dr/nurse.

    Good luck!

I had that problem. I put multiple layers of stiff foam under my heal so the boot fit solidly. Using the velcro straps I pulled my foot into the boot. As my heel touched a layer, I would remove it and repeat pulling my heel down. I still don't have the ROM that I would like but I am glad I didn't leave my toes pointing down.

i had this problem but my doctor wasnt worried and said to just position the heel as close as you could to the bottom of the boot. My foot was in a sort of neutral position for the whole of my 6 weeks non weightbearing after orif for a bimalleolar fracture. i took the boot off - initially with some trepidation but less so as time went on- to do gentle ROM exercise from about weeks 3 after orif. i did manage to move my foot so that it was looking more or less at right angle to my shin but could never really get my heel into the heel of the boot when i put it back on. i have just started weight bearing and when i started walking in the boot (about20% weight on bad leg i guess) with a shoe leveller on my good foot the heel did move down into the corner of the boot. That touchdown felt very good! Dont force anything, not putting my heel right into the boot corner whilst non weightbearing hasnt seemed to have caused a problem for me. Good luck x
