I'm 24 and have had a Cholesteatoma since i was 10, altogether i think i have had about ten operations its hard to remember! i have started to realize that there are not many people with this condition and not many that i can find that have had the disease to the extent that i have if there is i would love to meet you!

i started with an exploratory op then i had a mastoid then i had numerous goes with lazer therapy two more mastoid ops and just over a week ago i had mastoid obliteration surgery on the 8 of jan 2008! all this to get rid of the persistent infection, im really hoping that this time my surgery has worked because this operation is all that can be offered to me now, the recovery after this op has been hard as that took muscle from my neck to fill the cavity my cholesteatoma has caused so i haven't just had a sore ear i had a sore neck to go with it.

Anyone else who has to go through this good luck i hope it fixes it your problems. :?

I have had a Radical Modified Mastoidectomy on the left side and a standard Mastoidectomy on the right to remove recurrent (probably congenital) Cholesteatomas; Left in 1997, Right in 1999, fortunately no recurrence since (although my Hearing took a major hit and I now have a binaural Hearing Aid Prescription). I live in Cornwall (still) and had the Op at Derriford, and I'm given to understand (taken on trust, of course) that they were good ops and the surgery was well performed, which is scant consolation when you wake up with 50%+ of your hearing gone! Anyway, I'm new to the Forum and see your original post in now over two years old, so I hope all went well for you and your now living an ooze (and pain) free life.
