Good morning! My first time was 1 week before and 2nd was 1 day. They do blood work etc. so surgery has to be done within the week I understand. Best of luck! I had a very positive experience and so glad I had it done. You realize the pain you have been putting up with once it is done.

I've had x-rays showing the degenerative joint change  + blood tests, & am seeing private hip surgeon this week. Will that classify as a "pre-op assessment", or is that something else again? Thx & pls excuse ignorance.

Hi Michael, at my pre op I had blood tests, and MRSA swabs, and they went through my meds and told me which ones to stop a week before the op. I also had to fill in bits of paperwork.

The pre-op assessment does not normally involve the surgeon, in my case it was things like MRSA and blood tests, ECG and a load of questions, also height and weight. Also an interview with the anaesthetist and an explanation of the op etc. plus samples of the stockings and what to expect, plus physio info, with questions and answers. I went through the NHS but I think the pre-op is the same for private ops. The aim is to see that you are fit enough for the op.

In my case here in Spain I could not walk  unless I had two crutches and it was a struggle.  They looked at it as an emergency.  After a week of sets to exactly pinpoint the issue, it was only two days for me.  I was lucky.  My wife has waited six months for non emergent care

Hi Andy, if you are having your surgery done on the NHS you must have the op within twelve weeks of the pre-op. If the op is not done then you have to have another pre-op. I waited nine weeks from pre-op to op.

Hello. I would imagine its different waiting times in different parts of the UK. I had my pre assessment beginning of June and had my THR on 12th Oct. But I had holidays booked and could of had it a couple of weeks earlier. If you go on line and go on the hospitals website it should tell you waiting times. Hope this helps.

As Maggie says, it varies so much from hospital to hospital here in UK.

See my website for tips from many hippies on this forum, the address is in my personal info here ...
