The virus is everywhere now, just don't panic, flu kills thousands and thousands every year, just take a few more precautions than you normally would. I have 4 advancing lung diseases including Bronchiectasis and am on oxygen, I go shopping in the quiet times, don't kiss or shake hands with any one, wash or wipe (no gel hand cleanser left anywhere here) your hands after handling anything bought and before you touch the steering wheel of your car or house door etc.
I am already getting nasty remarks because it is evident I have lung problem, I cough as hygenically as I can, been told to go home and not spread my germs, I tell them that I have a problem that is 100% fatal and 0% contagious and thank you for your concern soon has them flustered, thank you for a different forum member for this gem.

Hi Debra!
You've helped me make a decision! Like you I have a lung problem, nothing like as bad as yours I think! My lungs were damaged when I was 6 as a result of badly managed whooping cough (I'm now 72) I have a 33% lung function. I, too have a chronic cough and get 'looks and stares' by people, or even worse a hefty slap on the back. So far I haven't had any adverse comments by anyone about the corona virus.
I use oxygen, but this is my choice supported by GP. I also use high dosage oxygen once a week using an oxygen chamber through the MS Therapy Centres. I pay a small sum for the use of this facility, worth every penny.
I live in a small village in the countryside with my husband. Most people know me and my cough here. I get a lot of support. Because we're fairly remote from large towns or cities, there are no reports of the around here yet.
My decision? I'll go to my art group this afternoon!!
good health!

Hi Heather
We are the same age with the same amount of lung function left mines 30% and declining!! I cannot go anywhere without having to use oxygen, sitting, fine but moving, no. Sorry your problem was caused by negligence or ignorance.
I also live in a tiny hamlet, 12 houses, in mini mountains, good clean air, bad choice when uphill is an impossible walk lol. Get in the car to take the dogs to a forest that is virtually flat and on a good day (really good day) I can do 3 kms. I also get support here though I am on my own, my husband was also poisoned by the same work and died of lung problems 8 years ago. City a good hour and a halfs drive away. Good for you keeping up your hobbies. Good for the moral too.
Best of luck.

Golly, I've had the flu for 3 frickin weeks. Had to go on prednisone when the coughing got so bad and mucus went from middle pink to dark red. Today came a reminder from the head of the foundation for an autoimmune disorder i have: prednisone compromises immune systems, making us more susceptible to everything. Then came the call from my pulmonologist's nurse: i am not supposed to go out, not supposed to be around people and especially not around people who mingle a lot with people from all over. Guess that crosses off the college & high school students in the family, lol.
Of course this will not work as i am down to almost zero friends left alive and cannot afford shopping services Also the dog insists upon occasional breaks from my company.
I do still have a few masks.

My opinion is that people panic and lock them selves away, how long for? Virus not going to go away in the short term. I have a friend doing that and she doesn't even have any health issues, !! won't have people visit, has stocked up on essentials, she is a widow like me, what will her mental status be when she eventually faces the world? Me I take precautions, cos as you say Prednisolone weakens your immune system, you could just as easily get knocked down by a car than catch the virus, in fact the former is more likely !!. I live alone with 2 dogs so have to shop, walk dogs etc. No such thing as shopping services here either, even if I could afford it. I don't use masks as I find it impossible to breathe with them on. Been to the heart specialist today to check that on top of every thing else I haven't got pulmonary hypertension, yay still no probs, but there was me on one side of the waiting room with my machine and every body else that came in sat of the side away from me, really will have to check my deodorant lol.

I live in the states and have Bronchiectasis with asthma. It's under control, but I don't want to press my luck with getting the virus. I'm retired and can limit my contact with people.
My concern is that I'm having two siblings flying in to see us at the end of this month. I'm concerned about them.
Also, at the end of April, my husband and I will be going on a bus tour for 9 days. Being in a confined place with about 50 other people has me real concerned. I'm going to talk to my pulmonary specialist about it when I see him at the end of this month.

Hi Elizabeth
Even with my gung ho attitude I would not go on a bus tour.

My pulmonologist said last night that i ma supposed to stay away from people, and especially stay away from people who are around a lot of other people, and stay away from confined public spaces. i don't know that we'd call my BX under control, tho.

We received an e-mail today from the tour company stating that all tours to the end of March are being cancelled. So they are willing to cancel a tour if needed.

Hi Everyone,
I know that we are all scared.
I have asthma (30 years) and bronchiectasis (related to renovation/major construction in the building that I work in). Has knocked me on my but for the past 2 years.
I work from home now. I can't say that my breathing is very stable, particularly with Spring pollen and blossoms surrounding me.
I know it is hard, but I feel like we have to dig deep and do everything we can for ourselves to survive through this challenging time.
I am focusing on things that I can do to help myself, like:
**Eating healthier and exercising (whether that be a rigorous walk, or doing jumping jacks in my house, or just doing postural drainage if I feel too bad).
**
Taking vitamins (Particularly Vitamin C).
**Staying on top of taking all of my meds (there are many) and my inhalers/nebs when I need them. **
**Limiting my exposure( I did not go to a work conference today) and carrying Lysol Wipes and hand sanitizer where ever I go). Washing my hands everywhere where there is a sink and soap available. **
Gaining support from anyone that I can (this problem can be very isolating and make one feel so alone).
Stocking up on food/supplies as we are advised to do. Prepping my 17 and 19 year old kids (I am a single mom) to sanitize and self monitor if they have been exposed/have symptoms).
**
**I have always relied on humor during stressful days/months/years... LOL! Find something funny and share it with someone else.. (I would post Saturday's monalog to SNL, but I may offend one side or the other in the political arena, so I won't)... For anyone interested, you tube it from this past Saturday... its really hysterical, no matter what side you are on. **
If you have any type of spiritual arena/higher power/religion in your life, lean on it. I pray. Whatever works for you, regardless of your beliefs.
Let's beef each other up... we are sooo strong living with our diseases! We are survivors!
We may not always feel like it when on the couch or in bed, but we are. ALL OF US!
WE ARE NOT VICTIMS! Think of everything that you have persevered through.. and you are still here FIGHTING!!!
Think of those that have it worse... believe me, there is always somebody that has it worse.
No matter what happens, we will ultimately be alright.
Do not give in to others who want to stereotype... people like that usually live in constant fear.
What other people think of me is really none of my business! Hah! Take that onlookers! 😃
Thanks and take care. We can lift each other up! Isn't this what this site is for?

Hahaha! i don't watch SNL & I hate watching vids on this screen, but now i'll have to go watch that. The current "thing" in the Oval Office has vastly improved SNL over the preceding 16 years.
Yes, i have to at least cuddle with my 60 lb pup & spend some time with the birds & bees in the back yard or i'll go nuts.

Hi where do you live?
I am considering trying my best to keep away from public places and have just messaged my boss asking about working from home as much as possible.
I think anyone with respiratory problems now need to look after themselves, hope you are ok and keep well
