Cortisone

Hi everyone, just wanted to know if anyone knows why cortisone shots are limited to 3 or 4 a year. Are they safe? Or not safe? Just wondering I'm going in for 5 shot. And there the only thing that helps with my pain. Any thoughts?

It depends on what they are used for. Intramuscular shots can be given repeatedly, injections into joints are limited because they can lead to tendon/ligament damage.

Thank you Eileen, I've been wondering that. I've had one intermuclar shot that worked all of 2 weeks. I've had 4 injections into the joint itself. And boy they work about for 3 months. I had a 3T MRI that showed I have a pretty torn up labrum and the ball of my hip joint is not round. So I'm pretty torn up. I'm scared to do the replacement because I'm only 57 and I do have a physical job. Just wondering how many years can I go to just keep getting shots? But thank you for your help. It's very appreciated.
