Costchondritis, advice

Hi all, I am 24 and a male and over the last 4 weeks have been suffering with maddening chest pain, which varies in intensity. Usually a sharp pain just left of the centre and below the breast. I've been checked a couple of times, had an ECG and X Ray, blood test tomorrow but myself and my doctor are sure it's costochondritis or tietzes syndrome. I also have let arm pains and aches. Hearts ok, X Ray was fine, but I think I've developed anxiety over it as I keep thinking it is heart related to the point I've developed a kind of nervous tick (sort of) in that I or my partner gave to keep checking my heart every tine it flares up. It's usually worse at night and shortly after I get up but it usually unless it's a bad day recedes and is mostly absent for the actual day. Ibuprofen is calming in the day but is barely effective at night, I will be forced to stop the ibuprofen in one day as you can't take them for more than ten days. Does this sound familiar to anyone or any advice on calming or getting rid of this?.

Sounds very familiar!! A xNax helps me at night when it's really bad. Helps me to relax and eases all the clenching I do as a response to pain.

Hi I have been dealing with costocondritis for 20 years. I have found that ice and heat really help with the pain. I take advil when its really bad (hurts to breathe and move). This syndrome really sucks! I don't think doctors understand the pain you are in and don't understand this problem at all!!!! I started doing stretches everday and i think it helps if your not in dieir pain. Go on lo

Iine to costocondritious exercise it may help. I hope i have helped you in some way. Good luck

    Hi Sam.

sounds like Costchondritis.  when i had it my Doc said it impinged/affected/irritated the myocardium of my heart and caused tachcardia and severe anxiety.  immediately, i was treated for it with Nortriptyline the pain and the anxiety dissappeared in 48 hrs.  I started on 10 mgs and went upto 30 mgs over 3 weeks.

hope  that helps. - it's a horrible condition.

I also have developed a bit of anxiety issues since this has started. Some days are good and some days are worse. If you have had your heart. Checked out that should help somewhat. When I get stressed about it as odd as it sounds I try to meditate to calm myself. Cause I can't take ibuprophin as I am on blood thinner for blood clotting disorder. Sometimes I take hot or sometimes cooler bath also.IT is scary feeling the chest pains cause the first thing you think of is a heart attack. Also ttrying some light stretching everyday helps.Good luck .

Ah, least I'm not going mad, even though I know it's not my heart I still keep checking just to make myself feel better about it. Had blood test earlier so hopefully nothing else is causing it.
