Costo and back pain

Does anyone else who suffers from costochondritis have pain across their upper/mid back? Sometimes my chest and ribs don't appear to be hurting too much but my back has the pain.

    Hi Emma

Yes I had the same thing and went undiagnosed for many months. An osteo / physio suggested I had Tietze syndrome. But I was actually diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) in January 2018. The costochrondritis was a symptom of the AS which was manifesting itself as I was in a bad flare up! Really think it is worth you reading about AS and seeing if that is you? Common symptoms are stiffness and moving pain. Since diagnosis I've been on anti inflammatory medication and am in much less pain. Wish you the best of luck.

Thankyou so much for your reply Yas...reading up on AS I do have the symptoms explained. Did you have pain every single day?

Will definitely be visiting my doctor again!

I hope your pain stays under control for you. Take care

      Hi Emma

Yes I have pain every day but fortunately it is mild. I have better and worse days. It's important to get it under control early as if you leave it to develop it will damage your joints. If you want more support on how to live with the condition (if you are diagnosed that is) there are lots of forums on Facebook. There are lots of treatments as well and sometimes it takes time to find the right plan for each person but most people live a normal life.

very comment with Costo . a lot has to do with when you move a certain way . the muscle in your chest glides over you ribs and makes you gap from air .from the chest pain mine feels like something is sticking back there .very uncomfortable feeling . a very nagging feeling.
