I began with shortness of breath, then a horrible stabbing pain in the right. of my chest, then i developed a burning sensation in my back and now i have pretty much always got a feeling as if I've been punched in the back like a winded uncomfortable feeling feeling right between my shoulder blades. my chest feels inflamed and i often get a racing heart. Anyone else experience this?

how do you manage this and how long have you had? Mine started the 1st week of lock down and they treated me with antibiotics to start with. them more antibiotics after pain developed in my chest and back. The Drs believe this may have been triggered by covid but they weren't testing so guess ill never know. It was only after being taken to hospital by ambulance after my heart racing above 165 that the dr their said I had costocondritus i also developed another infection after this

I developed pain in my right side just over a week ago which was more of an ache and heaviness/pressure when breathing, this continued and i went to Dr who listened to my chest and did ECG and said it is costo. Since then the pain was the same but then yesterday i developed upper back pain - in between my shoulder blades - and feels like a horrid burning sensation. How long did yours last? I am interested to know if this is because of Covid as i was very ill with flu 5/6 weeks ago (tested neg for covid but Dr thought was false negative).

I have had costo for several years now and it comes and goes fairly regularly. I do suffer with the burning sensation in my back, but I work at my desk all day thanks to Covid so this isnt helping the situation. The racing heart is new to me in recent months and although xrays and ECGs haven't shown up anything of concern, Ive not been given an explanation I'm afraid. Would love to hear if anyone has been given a reason for this racing heart issue.

Hey Donna, I'm not fully diagnosed ... yet but Costo was suggested (twice) as the reason I ended up in hospital last week. No shortness of breath, but I definitely experienced the stabbing pain, my was right in the centre of my chest and was the reason for my admittance to A & E. I can also relate to the burning sensation, especially in my back either side of my spine, level with my shoulder blades. Plus when I get the pain, anxiety kicks in and my heart takes off, racing.

Sorry to hear you're dealing with so much pain and shortness of breath, sounds scary andhard.

My costco hit during early quarantine and came with the msot severe panic attack I've ever had (landing my int he ER, naturally).

My back often starts aching between my shoulder blades and lower. Those vertebrae start aching and feeling stiff before I have a costco episode. Because of my fear of heart problems I've paid a lot of attention to my breathing when it comes up and it's usually that my chest and back muscles are all tightening to protect the rib joint, if i do belly breathing I can actually get deep breaths in. Sometimes it's that Im low-key panicking and didn't realize it, but as I've gotten medical tests I've slowly separated the panic attacks from the costco.

The thing that seems to help most is icing my chest. It helps witht he inflammation but surprisingly calms my anxiety every time. (not medical advice). Now Im working with a PT to get the muscles around my back/ribs to cooperate and stabilize the joint.

    Good luck!
