Cough for 9 months with tickle on my chest

For the last 10 years o so i had a cough that came in spring or call last one week or 2 and left. I thought it Was allergy. Last april i got the tickle on my chest and the cough came back and 9 months later i still have it. I get white sick mucus in the morning and after that its a clear mucus when i cough.

i went to my dr and he refer me to a lung specialidt which took 3 months to get in. He listen to my lungs and he said he heard crskling on my left lung and that he Was sending me for tests.  I had ct scan, blood test and pulmonary function test. On Augustnmy husband and i went for the results and as soon as we got to the doro he said i have good News for you, you dont have what your mother died from which Was pulmonary fibrosis. (My mom Was diagnose with pf at age 83 and died at 86, the lung specialist said that it was because my mom cook with wood all her life).

Wrll we sat at the specialist office and then he proceed to go into his computer after he gave us good news and he look at the ct scan he said clean, then blood test I was very allergic to dandelions, then he got to the pulmonary function test and he said "if somebody show me this graph which is curve I will say this person had PF". I said to him but you just gave us good news. He was quiet and gave me asmanex puff and said take this, again I said what about the curve on the graph? He said come and see me in dec and if you cannot breath come and see me before.

i left with mix feelings. I made an appt with my regular dr. And I asked him about it, he got the letter the specialist sent him and gave me a copy and his comment was that the specialist was not sure

I wanted a second opinion but my dr said to wait for dec which was my next appt. December came and I went to see him for the second time , he had a student doctor with him, I asked again about my concerns since my last appt with him and he said " I stand to what I said " and he said could I listen to your lungs and he said that now he could heard crakling on both of my lungs and that he was retesting me . I had done all the tests again but I don't see him until February 5 because he is in holidays. I have a second opinion on Feb 19.

i don't know if it's stress but in the last 3 months I had a bad left hip that made me limp for a month, then I woke up one morning and my lower back was luck and I was not confortable at all, then in the last 2 weeks my upper back begin to have pain very inflamed and the only thing that help is Advil , the x-Ray came clean.

My ribs also hurt and my chest muscle.

I am not coughing as much as in the last month but I still cough. I don't cough. While I sleep which is good. I have a humidifier all night on my room.

I m a 59 year old lady. I m so stress out about this and I m trying not to worry but our mind is hard to control sometimes . I was taking symbicort but I don't think it was helping and made me anxious and not wanting to be alone. Right now I m not taming anything except Advil por the inflamation on my back which is in the same area my lungs are.  Please if you have anything similar or some suggestions let me know thanks

I hope that your second opinion is not a general practitioner but a lung specialist.  You should be seen by a specialist in pulmonary diseases.  The crackling noises in the chest , "a sound like Velcro", is one of the symptoms of PF.   If it turns out that you have PF then there is a drug called Pirfenidone that is marketed under the name Esbriet that is an effective treatment, and should stop the progress of the disease, although it will not cure it. In the UK NICE has approved  but you may have to fight to get it from your local medical service.  It is given out only through certain specialist hoopspoitals.  Tell your doctors to read the New England Journal of Medicine for May 2014 where there are major articles about this drug.

I have no idea about any connection between the chest symptoms and the back symptoms.  But DEMAND THAT YOUR DOCTOR SENDS YOU TO SEE SPECIALISTS.  You must not rely on what we people on the internet  say.

i have PF and have been taking. Esbriet for nearly a year.  I feel better than a year ago, and if there is any progression of my disease it is very slow.  I am make and 80 years old.

    good luck and best wishes

If your not happy with what the Dr tells you keep at him to send you to a specialist. You know your own body and something dosent feel right and so much going on you have to insist on another opinion

good luck hope you get it sorted soon

      Thank you Dawn

i think the hardest thing is the wait. I call the lung specialist office on Friday to put me on the cancellation list because all the tests are done for the 2nd time and the secretary said the dr is going in holidays . I will see Him on February 5.  They don't care that I have to wait 8 month for to see what is happening with me and my cough
