Cough for three weeks

I have had a cough for more than three weeks. I also have a headache and fever, alternating between very hot and freezing cold. I don't want to take antibiotics so I'm not going to the doctor. If I have a bacterial infection, will it get better without antibiotics? How much longer will it take? I haven't been able to eat for a few days because I have had a gastric bug as well, everyone in my family has had a gastric bug.

I understand you may not want to take antibiotics, I am assuming because of the side effects, but it really sounds like you may need them. The fact your cough has lasted more than 3 weeks, you can't eat and you have a fever means you need to see a doctor. You may have the flu which could turn into pneumonia. Do you really want to take that risk?

Actually my daughter is the one with these symptoms and she will not take antibiotics under any circumstances. I will wait for a reply to the question I asked. Thank you for your reply.

Have you been taking a cough mixture, i was told by doctor once that cough mixture actually pushes the cough into your chest causing difficulty to rid, i am no doctor but i would presume that your bodies natural defences will eventually rid yo7 of this condition, however if it persists then you should seek medical advice, remember sometimes a chemist can help

According to my sister virtually all her friends seem to have caught a cough which has been going on for ages. My great nephew coughed over the phone so I could hear it.
