Coughing for 4 weeks!

I started coughing 4 weeks ago, which included retching and heaving very painful, I went on anti-biotics for a week which gave me no improvment.

My doctor then referred me to Hospital where I had a full check up i;e Bloods,ECG, and Chest X-ray. The hospital told me all ok!! and it must be a virus that will clear up in a few days.I am now retching worse than ever cannot lie down and haven't slept for 3 weeks. I am now seeking help??

    Hi Robert

sorry you are so ill, it sounds awful, keep going back to hospital and insist they do some more checks, surely a virus would have shown up in the blood tests.

its easy enough for me to say that, been there done that and everytime been sent home drugged to the eyeballs and told to be refered by my gp.

Did you not have a stomach scan, oh I get so angry with the nhs, we have such a great thing and we can't get what we would like.

personally I think if you go to hospital, you should automatically have ct scan, X-rays and work down from there.

i hope you feel better soon, sorry not much help.

I think I would return to your GP to have a review of your situation.  The GP should be able to have access to the hospital reports.  Obviously something is wrong.

My thinking would be that either it needs a different antibotic (?) depending on what you had in the first place, or it is a persistent virus, or it is something in your stomach that an endoscopy may help to diagnose (eg stomach ulcer?).
