Could I have bowel cancer?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have had bowel symptoms for a long time but put off going to my GP. I went a few days ago and was given a rectal examination. The doctor suddenly looked worried and said she could feel a mass that wasn't piles or a prolapse and she couldn't rule out something serious. She spoke to another doctor and said they were going to refer me urgently to a colorectal specialist and I would get seen within 2 weeks. I got the impression she thought it was something serious. Can a doctor tell this by a rectal examination? I am trying not to worry but it's really difficult as I have young children and can't stop thinking about it. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Are you able to share what type of symptom you have and for how long?
