Could I have Raynaud's Disease?

Posted , 4 users are following.

When I'm out in cold temperatures my fingers go cold and numb, they go from purple and change to red and kind of tingle when they change to red, I know that me having this as a male is extremely uncommon, but I'm definitely sure that I have it, even when wearing gloves it doesn't help and they are still affected when I am wearing them.

I know that it's August now, but I was just curious, should I make a doctor's appointment in the near future.

Could someone advise me, thanks.

Hello Jonathan. It certainly sounds like Raynauds. I suffer the same and despite the warm weather and an Italian holiday in June I still suffer from my fingers going numb, changing colour and even going a blue/black colour. I saw my GP this morning and he wants me to have blood tests and he may start me on Nifedapine tablets before the winter because it is then I suffer with chilblains.

I would see your GP before it gets any worse.

Yes, it sounds like it  so see your doctor as soon as you can. I have to have Flolan infusions every autumn because mine gets so bad.

Hello jenny. Your Raynaud's sounds really bad if you have to have Flolan infusions. I get very little respite from mine even in the summer. Do you find that as well?

Yes it happens all the time and not necessarily if my hands get cold. That is why I am worried about the pins and needles and tingling! The last time I had an infusion no one seemed to know what they were doing as I was in a different ward and they turned the drip rate up leaving me bright red and jerking. The ward staff nurse forgot to give me a discharge letter so I had no follow up appointment with the specialist and as my husband was becoming difficult to leave for five daysI ( with Alzheimers)I did nothing about it!I will have to soon though, just fed up with everything affecting me and wanting a little respite!

Jenny you certainly have a lot on your plate. I wonder if stress is a contributory factor? It's my chilblains that concern me. This winder I had them from November until May and it was a mild winter as well.

Quite possibly. I came home from a carer's meeting yesterday afernoon feeling so depressed and tired and am sure thst evrything adds up though in fairness I remember my hands turning blue as a child and I was always cold even to insisting on wearing a vest beneath my swim suit (Knitted)!!

Hello jenny. I clearly remember like you as a child really suffering in the cold and like Jonathan nothing helps ie gloves etc. That's why it's so important to get medical help. I've been for a blood test today so my GP is taking it seriously thank goodness.

My mother always said that she never met anyone, until she married my father, who suffered from the cold as much as he did. That is until she had me and I was far worse My body thermostat is set too low it seems so that even when I am very feverish and hot my base temperature is only ever about 92 degrees. Good luck with the blood tests, let me know how you get on.

you make me think that perhaps I had better mention the Raynauds again. One funny fact that after an hour of strenuous Keep fit, if I hold another person's hand they drop it saying how cold I am, but I do make excellent pastry!

hi Jonathan, it certainly sounds symptomatic of Raynauds - definitely worth seeing you G.P. about it - I get it more in my toes, but my hands do get affected too. I've coped with it for a few years, mine is quite mild compared to some, but it's painful all the same and worth seeking treatment for.
