Could it be coeliac?

Hi,

I was tested for coeliac 3 years ago as I had started to experience flare ups of nausea (never sick) and loose stools. When I first went to my doctor it had only happened 3/4 times within 3 months. The test came back as normal.

Now 3 years on, I am still struggling with this. The nausea and loose stools happen every week, lucky if I get 3 days a week where I don't feel unwell. I have kept food diaries but can't work out what it is.

should I be tested again for coeliac as my symptoms at the beginning of all this weren't as bad, so maybe didn't show up? Or would it have?

thanks

Hi Elle the symptoms you describe could be CD, however they could also be other things, I would go back to the GP and say that the symptoms are now becoming worse and you want them investigated.

Make sure when you have the test for CD you have been eating plenty of gluten for at least 6 weeks.

I am not sure whether this site will allow links to other sites but if you search for diagnosis coeliac Uk it will take you to a page which explains everything

I have copied part of the website page below

If your GP thinks you need further testing, they will take a simple blood test to check for antibodies. These can indicate coeliac disease. However, it’s possible to have a negative test and yet still have coeliac disease. Do not remove gluten from your diet at this stage.

Hope this helps, hope you feel better soon
