Could it be RA

Hi, everyone. I'm a 38 year old female. My Dr. referred be to a rheumatologist for what he suspected was RA. I had bloodwork done which showed no markers and I had no physical symptoms except severe fatigue. fast forward 6 months..... for two months I've ran a low grade fever everyday. I have slight swelling in ankles, knees, and hands. Sometimes it is accompanied by slight redness and pain, but doesn't last more than an hour usually. I get what feels like my spine being sliced in half, then after an hour, it goes away. I was under the impression that the pain lasted longer. Could I just be in the beginning stages?

    Hi Amy,

it may not be RA but it could be some other form of an Autimmune illness.

If you can, find out if your Rhuematologist did an ANA (Anti-nuclear Antibody)

test. This will tell you if Autoimmune is the issue. I was tested for RA as a child it was negative but now have  Lupus Arthritis. The Lupus and Sjogrens all started with symptoms of severe fatigue and joint pain. I think it is all about getting the (right) tests to figure out why you are suffering. There are over 100 types of Arthritis!! (learned that this year) Good luck and feel better,

Well, It doesn't sound typically like RA which normally starts in hands/ feet/ shoulders / knees . Also typical is stiffness in those joints for more than hour in morning. BUT it does sound like an inflammatory condition with the fever, redness, swelling and that back pain sounds like you need further looking at by a rheumy or someone. As Sally says it could be another auto immune thing...... Or maybe there s some other reason for inflammation?

hope you get some further tests/ diagnosis.

Hi Amy, I don't think it's a RA but rather some other auto immune condition. The pain with RA does not go away after an hour. Low fever may indicate a general infection which, as a result, may end up in joints swelling and aching. Where do the fever come from? Did your dr check that? With RA you get pain but most often no fever... Did you check your TSH and liver? These too may influence the joints... Sorry :-( hope that you will get your diagnosis or at least treatment soon...
