Could this be a flare up?

I got diagnosed with mono about 4 months ago and I have slowly but surely started to feel a little bit better, or so I thought. Last week I started to get chills and then I woke up with a scratchy as if I was coming down with a cold, but the scratchy throat went away after two days and evidently I don't have a cold. Ever since then, I have had an on and off pain in my upper left abdomen (which I'm assuming is my spleen) and have had a sporadic low grade fever. I am freaking out because I am convinced that this is lymphoma and not mono. I have been losing sleep over this and have had many panic attacks as well.

So sorry to hear this Madison it's so tough I know going through mono. I really want to assure you that these kind of episodes / flare-ups can be very normal during mono and all the symptoms sound consistent with mono to me. It's natural and understandable to be concerned about other illnesses but it most likely is the mono and nothing else, of course it's always wise to discuss concerns with the doctor and hoping very much that they can put your mind at ease.
You ARE going to get through this and get better Madison - mono is a nasty nasty virus and all this most definitely can and usually is caused by mono and nothing else - it's so hard not to let your mind wander or worry I know. Just remember it takes time for your body to get over this and that these ups and downs happen unfortunately and are often very common in the initial few months, and that things do and will settle and stabilise as time goes on and your body will reach the stage where it gets fully on top of this thing and kicks it out for good.
Take care of yourself and remember if you can talk to someone close to you or you trust about how you've been feeling that can be a big help too - it really helped me during recovery to be able to talk about everything and tell someone who cared how I was feeling.

It totally could be. I was the same.....after about 4 months I started feeling better. Had about a week or so off feeling mostly normal but of course I was still weak from being bedridden and losing weight. And then I had a relapse. I have had several on my 9 month journey. Just when I would think I was getting over it. But every time I have relapsed the symptoms have been less and less severe. We all think we have some other disease or cancer. It is hard for our brains to wrap around something that is supposed to be so minor is making us feel like this. Hell.....I thought I was dying for a long long time. I still have days I am convinced this isn't mono anymore and I am dying but then I see a specialist for some of the symptoms and they assure me that this is all just EBV. If you are concerned go see a doctor or specialist to put your mind at ease. 😃
