Could this be Chronic/Acute Prostatitis?

Hello guys, 39 year male here. The last few weeks I've been having problems, and have been in and out of the GP's office for what I believed to be a colorectal issue. I feel like theres a buildup of pressure in my rectum, almost constantly all day, only to be relieved with hot water and sitz baths. I have also had a bit of anal pain, but equally was dealing with piles. so I think that's the angle of attack the GP has gone for. He has requested referral to a Colo-rectal consultant.

The thing is, whilst this issue has been going on, and giving me a constant dragging feeling, I've noticed a few more symptoms creep up. The first is that my penis feels numb, and when I need to go to urinate, I have to get there fairly quickly. I attributed this to drinking too much water and the numbness coming from too much hot water. Also, I decided to have a bit of "self relief 😃 " and I had a real bad burning sensation during and after ejaculation. I need to wee quite a few times in the evening, but don't have pain whilst doing so.

Anybody had similar symptoms or am I just adding 2+2 to get 5!?

Get ready... I'm 60 and been dealing with the same side effects as you have for the past 20 years.... I have been to so many doctors and was told you have to deal with it.......

There's no cure, just hang in there. Happy New Year. It will get somewhat better.

Sounds to me like chronic prostatitis for certain . Ask your Gp to do a DRE. if you yelp when he/ she touches your prostate that will pretty much confirm it . I can relate to all your symptoms and more . The feeling you have in your anus is your prostate inflamed and a DRE will confirm that .

There is no cure unless you are one of the lucky ones who has bacterial prostatitus in which case a month of anti biotics will be administered but beware these can have serious side effects .

For peace of mind have the tests your Gp recommends but your symptoms are typical of prostatitis. The feeling of discomfort in my rectum forced me to have a colonoscopy which was all clear but because prostatitis can be difficult to officially diagnose i wanted to rule everything else out .

You may suffer for a while with discomfort but it usually goes on its own accord . Stress will definately make symptoms worse.

    good luck

Darren, if it is I'll be slightly relieved, despite that it is a b@@ch to get rid of. I paid for a private consultation at a BMI hospital last night with a colorectal guy and he did press on my prostate. Its the first time anyone has checked it, and it felt very uncomfortable and made me leak a bit, so I'm not sure if it is working as advertised.

I've been treated like I have fissure/piles, but no ointment or painkiller seems to be working.

Now I'm tuned into the symptoms, I'm noticing the pain more for example when I'm driving my car. I guess the way to describe it is like there is a bump down there that is like a giant nerve ending that makes me want to crawl when there is pressure on it. I only just realised that because when I was stood up for a hour I suddenly realised I wasn't sore anymore. I was convinced it was something much more sinister like cancer but like you said, I'll keep those checks in place for piece of mind. I might go talk to my GP in the morning and try and get some antibiotics. I just ruled out prostate because it doesn't hurt to urinate. Thanks for your replies.

I do know exactly how you feel . i was convinced i had rectal cancer as the feeling was as if there was a lump in my anus . id already been diagnosed with prostatitis a couple of years earlier but id got better and this time round the symptoms were different .

"like sitting on a golf ball " is a common term for the feeling it gives . prostatitis gives a variety of symptoms that differ from man to man . Its also difficult to diagnose as it does not usually show on blood or urine tests . You are the right sort of age and your symptoms fit but be prepared for a few tests to rule everything else out . A colonoscopy will rule out any issues with your colon/ rectum . Thats what i did just to settle my doubts .

dcooperyz I had to laugh at this part of you post.

****Ask your Gp to do a DRE. if you yelp when he/ she touches your prostate that will pretty much confirm it

My second uro did a dre on me and I almost went trough the roof. She said "did that hurt?" Of course I answered yes. She just went hmmm and never mention prostatitis. I think prostatitis doesn't rack up the $ for them so they have no desire to treat it.

ha ha , yes its a classic indication of prostatitis . My Gp did one on me when i was suffering and explained to me that the prostate should not hurt when touched and in fact some men get pleasure from it being touched , but thats another story !

i guess like any part of the body if its deseased and inflamed its gonna hurt when touched . That being said not all cases of prostatitis will respond in that way. And yes UrOS dont like it much as there is nothing much they can do about it

Anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or Aleve might help.

It also feels like my belt is too tight and pushing on my bladder?

Darren, I'm gonna push for some antibiotics tomorrow. Hopefully the GP is aware of this condition.

I managed to get prescribed Cipro 500, took my first tablet then absolutely freaked out about an hour later.

Weird taste in mouth, pain behind eyes, pins and needles ans dizzy. Does your body get used to them or shall i try something else?

Smickers, sorry to hear of your predicament. Sounds a lot like prostatitis to me: burning pain after ejaculation, urinating a lot. Might be work getting a urologist to check you out. I've had prostatitis for the past 3 years and I still get occasional but less frequent flare-ups. Also had it for about 5 years back in my early 20s - I'm now 50! A good uro will check not only check your prostate for enlargement, but he might check to see if your bladder neck is working ok. I started peeing for England whilst the prostatitis was bad, and I found out I had a high and restricted bladder neck. The uro did an op to cut the bladder neck muscle so it opened up better and I've been fine ever since - plus my prostatitis has improved considerably, something my uro said should happen. A big downside of such an op is the approx 40% chance of getting retro ejaculation afterwards. I was lucky - thankfully! Might not be that with you at all, and if you do have prostatitis, many men will tell you it's a life sentence. Whilst it may be for some, I'm living proof that it's not for everyone. Twice now I've recovered from it. Incidentally, regular ejaculation was another recommendation my uro gave me - 2 to 3 times a week he suggested. I think my wife still reckons I made that up! Good luck!

How long do your flare ups last? And can you attribute them to anything?

Flare-ups can vary in length. Since my bladder neck op, they come and go in 2-3 weeks. I found keeping a diary/chart useful to try and identify trends etc but sadly, I've not been able to attribute the flare-ups to anything. That's the Holy Grail everyone's seeking sadly.

my urinary problems seem to be lessening 3 days into the antibiotics, which is great. But the pain in butt isn't going away yet, which is the main symptom for me.
