Could this be male genital herpes?

Hi everyone,

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a number of what I can only describe as whiteheads on my penis, approx 25, mostly located in the one area but each individual (not clustered as such). I thought they were fordyce spots first or just some weird random acne, as I am prone to acne on my face and chest. Over the last 3 weeks some have turned red like a regular pimple, some have seemingly disappeared and some have remained similar.

A friend of mine said it sounds like genital herpes, but I read through the symptoms of that and bar having small white and red pimple like bumps on my penis shaft, I have zero other symptoms. No pain. no itching, no tingling, no apparent discharge or typical blisters.

Might anyone know what it might be? Or does it actually sound like a very mild herpes outbreak?

Hi, it doesn't sound like herpes. Herpes sting and usualy hurt. If they have a white head and look more acne-like, my best guess is folliculitis.

Hi, Thanks for the response. I have been thinking this too, in relation to it not sounding or appearing like herpes that is! in addition to my previous post, I have had zero rash either - just small spots.

Could folliculitis occur 3/4 way up the penis shaft where there isn't hair present?

Yes, you think you don't have hair but you still have pores and sometimes the hair is so minuscule you can't see it 😉

It can also be molliscum contagiosum... a picture would help us.

I still think folliculitis is my best guess. If it is, it can be caused by yeast or bacteria. Try to clean them with peroxide and apply antifungal ointment. You can also apply aloesvera gel after showering.

The white spots are a little smaller now in places, but do not appear to be fluid filled. they feel firm like skin tags or something. The larger red ones would have been white spots that for whatever reason turned red but I have never over the course of the 3 weeks or so noticed any fluid from these or ulcers or pain of any kind

Doesn't look like herpes but a professional opinion would be the best to rule that out and confirm the best treatment.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I really hope it's not; I'm getting stressed out at the thought of it being herpes...even though I don't believe it's consistent with it
