For most of this year I've had what feels like I'm coming down with a cold but no runny nose or sneezing, nose just feels a bit congested and throat feels sticky and raw but not sore and just feel generally not well. I also have IBS.

Sounds more like an allergy to something or a food intolerance. As you have IBS have you ever tried excluding dairy products from your diet? or chocolate?

yes tried dairy free but didn't make any difference

have you tried gluten? bread, pasta etc?
