Could vacation diet cause spike in Creatinine and drop in GFR

Posted , 4 users are following.

Went on vacation for 10 days and ate very poorly. Far more protein and sodium then usual; also walked nearly 20 kilometers every day which I don't usually do.

Blood work 5 days after getting back shows GFR went from 46 to 29 and creatinine from 150 to 256.

Would this sudden change in regiment cause an exaggerated spike in test results?

probably need some time to recover, maybe just need to take a well rest or dehyrated.

drink more water and 2 weeks later check again. do not need to panic.

    Hi Skoot,

Could it?  Yes, particularly if you became significantly dehydrated.  Anything's possible.  However, for your average healthy person - no.  It sounds like you have been previously diagnosed with kidney disease?  More information would help.

I was diagnosed with CKD at an early age and the GFR has hovered around 45 for the better part of the past decade.

Hi Skoot, your GFR count can change from one day to the next.  Any strengh excercising or even eating red meat etc the day before a blood test can influence the results.  I would relax for two weeks drink plent of water and have a retest.  You might find GFR has gone back up.  Good Luck
