Coumadin instead of eliquis?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have been taking eliquis since February. I can't afford it anymore. No rx coverage. It costs me $400/ month. I have decided to switch to Coumadin. I know all the diet restrictions and bloodwork needed, but what other side affects does Coumadin have? Anyone wish they weren't on it?

I have been on warfarin for nearly three years,  I do not seem to have had any side effects, I have stabilised on 2.6 for the last six months which I think is great,  I have been taking the warfarin and the blood test that I have is at the Pharmacy and it is a case of pricking the finger and they put a tiny drop of blood into a machine and the results come right away.  I used to hate the blood tests but this new type is so easy.   Hope this helps.  Moira.

    G'day afiblady,

I've been on Warfarin (I'm in UK) also known as Coumadin, since Jan 2010. You seem to be aware of some of the hazards with this medication but I've not had any problems. My problems have been carelessness around the house and cutting/damaging myself, even bruising now is virtually non exist\nt.

I self test at home (and even occasionally tweak my own dose if my INR reading drops below 2.0) and I have no problems at all. My INR range is between 2.0 and 3.0 and I average around 2.4.

I self test using the Coaguchek XS device, a neat little handheld machine. You prick your finger, drop some blood onto a test strip and the device does it all for you .... Bingo a reading. You can do it anytime and anywhere.

I have an arrangement with my Doctors surgery whereby I phone in the reading, they feed the data into their computer and ring me back with a new test date and new doseage. The only time I do a face to face INR reading is every 10 tests or so, which may be over a year apart, I take my device in and we do a blood test on the surgery device and mine and compare readings just to satisfy us both that my device is functioning OK.

Simple and happy to be Warfarin.

    John
